Beautiful trail. Starts along a lovely lake and heads to another! Trail is pretty clear to follow, but it’s a sort of figure 8 type so just be mindful of that so you don’t get confused. Would suggest you upgrade to the Pro edition so you can download trail map since this location is very very remote - no internet service. Was glad I had done this beforehand. Decently shaded in parts of the trail, enough so you could stop to have water in shade whenever needed (it was quite hot - well over 80). Not too many people, which was a nice escape (not that I get to see people with the stay home orders one place... but still, nice not to have to worry about that either). There’s a campground 1/4 mile from trail, so a good, clean place to use bathroom before or after if needed (would suggest you have some TP just in case since it was running low on our way home). The road to get to the trailhead is sort of crazy, lots of switchbacks, very narrow (like 1.5 cars wide, with lots of bikers), with drops on one side which damn near gave me a heart attack, so be careful and go slowly. If you go a little off the trail at the second lake, there’s some lovely flat beach areas by trees to have a shaded picnic right alongside the water. Would def do this hike again, even though it’s quite a drive from Sacramento area (almost 3 hours). A perfect mountain lake hike!

HikingGreat!

Me and my dog hiked this, it was a nice hike, the trail was easy to find. there is some nice spot to overlook the lakes and the forest. I saw one other person by the second lake, and a few people fishing at the first. my dog loved playing in the water. its a nice beautiful place to go and relax

Nice hike. Snow on the trail made it a little difficult to navigate a few spots. Still an easy hike to a gorgeous lake. We didn't look for the 2nd lake. So not sure if we were at upper or lower Kinney Lake. Dogs loved it. Snow and water for my lab and he was in heaven.
