Difficult trail for mountain biking. There are many fallen trees on the path forcing you to pick up your bike. This trail is either uphill or downhill (no flat areas). There are many trail logs across the trail that make the ride a bit more difficult for new bikers

great trail with some water this time of year. Pretty steep incline in the one section. great views of the saints and el cap when you get above the chaparral. lots of downed trees further up the trail as well. Nothing unmanageable though.

Went blind on this trail looking for a challenging ride out of William Heise campgrounds. Very tough climb lots of melon sized rocks, couple of fallen trees along the way. This trail is probably hardly ridden or hiked. No foot prints, no sign of any activity on the trail what so ever! Had a blast, very tough, remote, beautiful, for biking this definitely black diamond. Bring lot's of water!

Hiked this yesterday. I did not find it spectacular or worth the drive to Julian from San Diego. I saw only 1 other hiker and it was on a Sunday so it is not very popular.

My first hike with the HikeMania group out of San Diego. Great group of people. Beautiful fall day. You can still see the ravages of the fire 10 years ago, but the vegetation is growing back. All Trails has the mileage and elevation change wrong. The actual mileage is 12.1 miles for the out and back route.

Paid $3 for parking. Trail not for kids. steep incline. Nice views. Due to fires, trail was a bit obstructed.

We started this hike at Cuyamaca Lake, hiking to William Heise Park. To do that, we took two cars, left one at William Heise and the other at Lake Cuyamaca. The signs say it's 5.5 miles, but that's to the park's boundary. It's about another 1.5 miles to the parking lot from the boundary. It's a beautiful hike, somewhat challenging with the elevation gains and losses. We went in April and there were lots of wild flowers. The view at the highest point is gorgeous, looking to the west and seeing El Capitan Mountain and Cuyamaca Peak. I think if it had been a clear day we could have seen the ocean. Definitely worthwhile!

Did this as an overnight backpack from Lake Cuyamaca and it was good, coming back the second day was a good climb out of William Heise park. Trail says 5.5 mi. but it felt longer!
