Jupiter and Juno Mountains are prominent peaks in the Sierra Pelona range. Jupiter is the taller of the two, and sister (wife?) peak Juno is slightly shorter. This trail follows a steep and slippery firebreak up to the summit of Jupiter Peak, where there is a bench and a summit register. Continuing west down to a saddle, you have the option of turning right and returning to the parking area, or heading up another firebreak to Juno. There are great views of Bouquet Reservoir, Green Valley, all the way up to the Tehachapi Mountains.

Recommend a hiking stick (or any sturdy stick you can find on the way up) and good traction shoes for some of the inclines/declines- bring a hat especially now that the sun is a little more unforgiving. Go up the left and down the right- the left passage is a steep incline, it would be a slide as a decline! Want to echo what someone previously stated- a trip into the sky! Great views everywhere you look. A place I can’t get enough of! Unfortunately, recently someone decided to graffiti some rocks on the way back down- hoping they used something that can wash off with rain :/

This was a great trail! Definitely can feel the burn in the calves for about the first mile of the trail. It’s got a steep incline but don’t give up and keep going because the 360 views of all the mountains, reservoir, Castaic lake in the distance - all are definitely worth it! Make sure to bring nice, cold water! On the way down there is a crazy amount of bugs, so be prepared for those.

Hard pull up hill for the first mile. False summits are good for a laugh. No shade. Nice view and cool breeze at the ridge line / dozer line / fire line. Narrow trail in brush on the back side way down, easy but watch your footing. Old dog kind got tired and weak in the hind quarters by the time we hit the down hill. Trouble walking the narrow edge and ended up carrying her. Some shade but no wind on the back side. 0945 Step Off - 1200 RTB Hikers / Dirt Bikes / Trucks on the trail.

Good trail. Very heavy incline over first mile, some degradation of trail due to winter/spring rains more noticeable on downhill single track but overall good shape. Start before 7am this time of year to avoid heat issues.

It’s open. The incline is crazy. Good workout.

Great trail if you go up the left side and back down the right side. Trust me, good workout for leg day)

(Open) incredible hike into the clouds ! There’s a loop in the middle that is overgrown, washed out, and is not recommended.

If you take the clockwise route watch the map for the switch back down the hill. With recent brush clearing it’s easy to miss.

Awesome hike up Jupiter this afternoon! Went to the left as recommended by the community. Sun warmed us up nicely, as did the incline! Nice and cool on the way back down. Still some snow on the right trail. Nothing serious, just fun to see!

Nice views of the local mountains and reservoir. Went up the steep side, the trail being damp from the decent snow made the rock sticky - no issues with slipping. A couple inches of snow in places. Coming down the "easy" way was 10"-18" of snow and the trail was covered the whole way back. Was slicker coming back than the steep section.

Great hike with awesome views. Trail is nearly all up hill, so be sure to take a walking stick, wear shoes with good tread, and bring water. Might be a good idea to take a friend because it is very easy to slide on the way down due to loose soil and rocks.

Fun hike, pretty steep with loose dirt/ rocks in places. Great view from the top. Going up the south east side is a nice workout. Lots of bugs, especially on the north west side.

GO LEFT on the way up and you can skip leg day at the gym for a week lol. It is STEEP, but extremely satisfying, especially if you don't let yourself stop and rest. You will feel the burn. Then you can take the right side back down and cool off. Depending on the conditions, coming back down on the left side is kinda dangerous, like if you don't fall on your butt at least once, you are more coordinated than I am. Honestly though, coming back that way isn't even enjoyable, you'll just feel like you are about to slip the entire time. my record is doing this loop 4 times (going up on left and down on the right), and I want to beat that record soon. also, if you go up the left side and loop around to the right side to come back down the mountain, you used to be able to walk all the way across the mountain ridgeline, walk down the mountainside, and come out on a small side road in the town of Green Valley after a few miles: you cant do that anymore; it's completely overgrown with bushes and poison oak. it kinda sucks because I have very fond memories of doing that hike as a kid

Left side is definitely harder, I would start with it so it’s a nice walk down. It’s a little overgrown in some spots on the right side, nothing that will impede your progress. A fair amount of bugs on the right side, towel swat method works for me. Nice scenery along the way.

Pretty difficult hike and can be dangerous, but worth it. Recommend using hiking shoes with good tread and/or hiking sticks. I started with the left side to get the upward steep part out of the way and it was the right choice. It could’ve been dangerous going down on that side and I was able to enjoy the rest of the hike without much difficulty by getting it out of the way. Steep part only last for 1/4 of the trail. There’s a bench at the top of the mountain and an amazing view. Parking for this trail is by wooden posts where a concrete structure can be seen.
