I know a lot of other reviews said the trail itself was boring, but we loved the entire thing. It’s a steady incline the whole way up, very manageable, never too challenging. Yes it’s a fire road, but there is plenty to see along the way. The views of the San Gabriel Mountains were great. There is no shade on the trail but if you go in the morning there is plenty of segments not in direct sunlight. The peak is wonderful.

Good wide trail, just a steady ol’ incline to the top. As others have said the trail itself isn’t super interesting but the peak is great! Directions were easy. We came on a Sunday in November starting before midday and we saw hardly anyone.

Pretty uninteresting fire road the entire time, but lovely vistas along the way. R/T is just over 8 miles.

Steady up hill fire road. Lots and lots of flowers in bloom. Good views and there was a nice breeze on our hike however there is not much shade so bring a hat. We ran across maybe a dozen other folks all afternoon. Parking was plentiful as well.

Beautiful views, pretty empty and a great workout. No shade, good for spring, but definitely could get hot!

Phone read 8.29 miles with 1815 ft gain in 1:55:41. Fire road for the entire length of trail. Turn off near top heads to Strawberry Peak. Solid view of downtown, Palos Verdes, and Catalina.

Great training, nice steady incline but no shade. Not the most scenic trail, but still worthwhile.

Super beginner friendly! I’d rate this as more of a moderate hike. Easy to follow fire trail and moderate incline. Nice view of LA. Great training hike!

Great hike for a bit of solitude and beautiful 360 degree views from the top. I was able to see Catalina Island and Channel islands today. The distance is closer to 8 miles and 2500' elevation gain measured from the fire road gate. Good training road for a new trail runner as well.

What a beautiful hike. There is nothing like getting up to the top and seeing clouds everywhere. It gets pretty crowded at the top so hike early!

Went on a beautiful Saturday and only saw three people the whole way - a group of two and a firefighter. 360 view at the top is wondrous.

this hike was all uphill and it was 10 .1 miles round-trip but the view from the top is a 360-degree view so it was worth it once we got up there and we think we saw a mountain lion but it was too far away to tell for sure

Easy to navigate fire road. More an easy/moderate hike. We hiked through the cloud cover in the higher elevation so the views were limited. It was nice to have a reprieve from the sun since there would have been no shade otherwise. Always enjoy a new hike.

Fire road all the way to the top. Not going to get lost here. Good work out. 2.5 hours to the top and down. About 10 miles on my Apple watch. 90% exposed to the sun. Fulfilling.

This trail is a steady incline to the top on a wide road. I would say it's a pretty easy hike. it has some really great views. The top especially gives you a view all around right next to a little cabin. Being above DTLA is a very cool view. One nice simple hike

Josephine Peak Trail is a fire Road that leads up to a small solar/electrical cabin. I throughly enjoyed this hike as it offered a steady incline on a flat, walk-and-talk trail. The trail meanders in and out of areas where you walk against the mountain with views of shrubs and chaparral and then into sections with sweeping views of both the city and far into Angeles Forest. This is a fabulous hike for newcomers or those who fear tight trails and long drops. It trail feels “safe” the whole way up. The best view is from the very top where you have a 360 panorama of the front range to the Channel Islands!!
