Park Fee $5 Summer boating, fall colors, winter snowshoeing, and spring waterfalls make this El Dorado park enjoyable year round The trails around Jenkinson Lake can be visited on horseback, mountain bike and foot. This guide, however, is going to focus on hiking. The full route, if you go all the way around, is just over 8 miles. With the continuous ups and downs it can feel like a lot further though. The total elevation change is insignificant but the small "whoopdedoos" can amount to hundreds and even thousands of feet perceived elevation change. Good physical endurance is a must if you're going to make it all the way. Jenkinson Lake at Sly Park has outdoor activities all times of the year. Snowshoes, cross-country skiing, boating and swimming are enjoyed by many. It's a huge park with more features than most people can visit in one day. There are events in the park that include everything from community mixers to the yearly "Run on the Sly". This park has been voted "Best Recreation Facility by the Mountain Democrat newspaper year after year.

Nice trail, lots of shade. Started my recording late so it was actually 9.2 mi around the lake. Dogs must be leashed. Very busy trail with hikers and bikers. Beautiful lake views!

9.2 miles. We went counter clockwise. In the future I’d just head to the waterfall and then back, which is prettier than the day camp / roads you take on the other half. Great hike!

*Do not go to the main entrance to the recreation area, they are only letting el Dorado county residents in.* I found if you go further past the main entrance and the dam, there are gravel turn outs where you can pay 5 dollars for parking. Once you get on the trail it is beautiful, it goes through the trees and stays right on the lake. There is a little incline and the whole trail around the lake is about 8 miles. it's a good workout. lots of cute little bridges that pass over a creek. there is a waterfall, but it didnt look natural to mw. You get to see the whole lake and there are plenty of places to park and take a break by the water and even jump in.

Easy walk. No complications.

Did the loop in 2.5 hrs. So beautiful. Very fun trail. Recommend hiking shoes, lots of tree roots spring up. Got there at 900ish left before noon, was not crowded at all on the trail but by 1030 looked like all the beach spots were occupied. Lots of shade.

Tried to go today but parking was full, and open only to El Dorado residents if there had been parking.

Lots of rocks & tree stumps in the ground, be careful not to trip over them or roll your ankle. Did the whole trail clocked around 8.7 miles. Lots of bugs toward the end of the hike but it was after 6pm so it was expected. The trail follows close to the lake so my dog was able to get in the water & play all throughout the hike.

Great trail. Easy to follow directions. We did the full lake loop today but you don’t have to. There are plenty of parking areas to make it easy to get to the waterfall quickly. The full loop was just under 9 miles. Get there early for amazing pictures of the lake.

Beautiful hike. It took about an 1 1/2 hours to get to the waterfall. This was with us accidentally taking the horse trail for part of the way. The waterfall was lovely as well as the stream that leads down to it. Very enjoyable. The lake offers some beautiful pictures as well.

We went on Christmas Day two years ago and loved it. Make time though, it took us a few hours and was pitch black when we were about 3/4 of the way back to our car. Good for pups, not super busy. Beautiful views of the lake, and a waterfall!

Fun hike. Ended up being 9.5 miles because not all trails are clearly marked & part of the hike is on roads. Beautiful view of the lake.

Overcrowded. Not a lot of people when we started, but towards the end there were a lot of people and the trail is narrow so someone has to step off. Great scenery though.

I would consider this trail easy to moderate but mostly easy. I did not complete the trail. I only did the 3 miles to the waterfall and back. The trail was heavily trafficked but pleasant. The pay machines are not accessible. So the parking is free at this time.

This was a beautiful trail, I wouldn’t say it wasn’t difficult - maybe slightly below moderate. Great for kids and dogs. Yes, it is accessible now amid the pandemic. I did not complete the entire hike but I hear there is a beautiful waterfall if you keep going. Will definitely return!
