This route is mislabelled/misdrawn. Except for the first 1/2 mile and a portion after the Blue Ridge Campground, this route does not follow the PCT but rather utilizes trails/roads that parallel the PCT. The route has nice views (at least from the PCT) but the scenery is marred by the ski lifts. This route as drawn crosses both of the Mountain High ski areas and can't be used while the ski areas are operating. The PCT itself goes around the main Mountain High Ski Area, but does cross into the Mountain High East ski area after the trail passes the Blue Ridge Campground.
Steep hills on the pct! I switched to the truck road because the incline is more gradual. Beautiful to see the sunset, and I had the whole campground to myself :)
A solid well traveled section of the PCT. This trail is OPEN as of 10/11/20 (the 2 is closed at Vincent Gap and likely to stay that way for a WHILE). DO NOT use the directions alltrails provides (which keep you on the driving road for most of the hike for some reason?) and just follow the clear signs for the PCT for the more pleasant experience. This section wasn't touched by the Bobcat Fire but you will see evidence where fire crews prepared in case the flames came this way. Nice way to get back out after a month of closures. Stay safe all.
Misread this and didn’t realize the 4 miles is not out and back. We took PCT the whole way to Guffy and recorded 9 miles round trip. Beautiful, varied views along the trail. Tons of bugs in the later part of the trail, but they were minding their own business for the most part. First mile or so is the toughest with the steep initial climb, but a breeze after that.
Went backpacking, great hike, great views. Lots of places to make camp at. Ate breakfast on of the chair lifts. Couldn’t find water, just the reservoir the ski resort uses to make snow and it’s fenced off.
We backpacked Inspiration Point to Guffy. Then tried for the Backbone up to Baldy but it was too steep and windy so we went back to Guffy and took the road down to Lupine camp. From there we tried towards Fish Creek Camp but trail was overgrown and time was limited. Instead we walked part of the way to cabin flat and back to Lupine. Out to Guffy and Inspiration Point next day. The water at Guffy is minimal. It is down a steep slope next to the old pump house (turn out is on the left just beyond camp off the PCT). There was a nice stream about 0.7 miles before Lupine where we filtered (may be seasonal?). Above Lupine (up through the brush past the water tank- sort of along the Fish Creek trail if you can find it) is Columbine Spring which has a nice water flow. Had Lupine to ourselves at night (some motorbikes and trucks came by during the day). Shared Guffy with a few other camping parties (one of which had a dog that attacked me with his scratching paws because he was "territorial" - apparently of the whole campground). Fantastic backpack adventure. We did about 26 miles overall. Wish we had more time for route finding to Fish Creek. Next time we will probably hike down to Lupine from Vincent Gap through Cabin Flat.
Beautiful trail. Lots of lush wildflowers, snow cupped mountains in the distance. Just be aware, the road to get up to Inspiration Point is currently closed, so we had to walk the roughly 2 miles from the bottom of the hill up to the trail head. Hardly ran into any people, which was nice. Also very dog friendly!
Went to test out my winter load out. Easy hike with a few steep incline by Mt high! Amazing views inspire of being beside a ski resort! Some snow and black ice during winter so be careful. I did not end up using my micro spikes but a few slip here and there!
