Inspiration Point and Mount Lowe is a 13.3 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Altadena, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible year-round.
FIRE CLOSURE: As of February 2021 there are closures in this park or area due to wildfire. For more information, please visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/angeles/alerts-notices. Not an easy trail, it gets much harder as you tackle Mount Lowe where it gets fairly steep. Once you reach the top you will find a swing. Barely any people past Echo Mountain.
Fue un interesante y dificil loop, ya que caminamos 14 millas, valio la pena, lindos paisajes.
I did this hike around late December 2020. I used nike running shoes to complete the trail as I didn't really research much into what to expect. I completed the whole trail and it was pretty easy for the most part to walk on the snow with my shoes as most of the snow was pretty fresh and soft. There was this one spot where the black ice was pretty bad, and I had to literally crawl as it was so slippery, but luckily that didn't last long. I would recommend taking snow shoes to be safe. We started at 9 am and finished at 4 pm!
Fun trail follow the map tho can go of trail easy after inspiration point
My first time to climb Mt. Lowe in the Snow It was BEAUTIFUL!!!
Really fun trail, did take a couple wrong turns and added some mileage to my trek, but great overall. Not an easy trail though, gets much harder as you tackle Mount Lowe, it gets fairly steep.
Start: Cobb Estate ->Lower Sam Merrill -> Upper Sam Merrill -> Mt. Lowe West -> Mt. Lowe. Return: Mt. Lowe -> Mt. Lowe East -> Castle Canyon -> Lower Sam Merrill -> Cobb Estate. All was good. Barely any people past Echo Mtn.
Excellent deep loop starting from Cobb estate in the AM with a shady ascent up to Inspiration Point, followed by some exposure, then more shade intermittently as you wrap around to the Lowe summit for some impressive views and entertaining notes in the iron box. Don't recommend you take the initial firebreak I used in my recording to get off the paved road sooner. I came up that way once just fine, but it was a real crap-show trying to go down out, resulting in one carbon-fiber trekking pole blowing out and an interesting remainder of the aggressive descent.
Past Inspiration Point the trail gets at times overgrown. the first uphill after Inspiration Point is very steep and slippery, definitely suggest trekking poles for that section
So we did this trail on 6/16. The temperature was perfect for this hike (mid 70s). We first went to inspiration point and that was the easy part of the day. The hike is pretty flat going to inspiration point. On the way back we decided to take the Mt Lowe east trail back... let me tell you this was really intense. The hill was very steep and a lot of loose gravel. We took the trail on the right thinking it was the right one but I guess it was a "shortcut" which was hard but doable. Later on we found the correct trail and continued our ascend to Mt Lowe. There are lots of areas that can be extreme scary because of the loose gravel as well as very small crossings. My sister started having a panic attack because the trail was less than 2 feet wide in some areas. We pushed through though and after a couple of hours we made it to the top. The way down the hill was pretty easy. Totally recommend this!
Cobb estate to Echo Mtn to Inspiration Point to Mount Lowe peak via East Mount Lowe trail. I’ve always avoided Mount Lowe West trail due to reports of it being washed out & impassable. Descended via the West trail & encountered No problems. It’s a little longer than East but ascends more gradually and has significant shade. Picked up Muir Peak & Panama Point from Inspiration Point area. The last few hundred feet to Panama is a rock scramble with basically no trail, but there is a very clear marker at the top.
