You will definitely need an off-road capable car to get to the trailhead, 4x4 recommended. A lot of cool things are out there; the remains of the old Dos Cabeza train station, the Dos Cabeza Limestone Mine, and of course Indian Hill. Saw a lot of cool morteros and some very well preserved pictographs. Definitely recommend this hike during the winter or early spring. A little hard to find, but worth it when you do!

This is not impassable by car, like another reviewer mentioned. You would be better off in a 4 wheel drive vehicle, but we made it in a tiny front wheel drive Ford Fiesta. Some people just give up too quick, but then if you’re reading this, hopefully you’re not one of those people.

The dirt road is quite long, but you’ll get out of your car at the junction right near the abandoned train tracks. You’ll see the water tower slightly off to the left of you. Also, before you start the hike, make sure to play a game of pool. That’s right! Someone bought a pool table out there in the middle of the desert with balls, cues, and even chalk! It was kind of surreal when I saw it, and the experience made for some interesting pictures. If your car is parked perpendicular to the train tracks, the pool table is on a small hill approximately 50 feet or so to the right from there.

It’s a cool little hike. Just make sure to sign the registry at the top.

Went to Indian Hill while in the area for a hike to the Goat Canyon Trestle. First off, you will definitely need an off-road capable car to get to the trailhead, 4x4 recommended (as you can tell from the other review). A lot of cool things are out there though; the remains of the old Dos Cabeza train station, the Dos Cabeza Limestone Mine, and of course Indian Hill. Saw a lot of cool morteros and some very well preserved pictographs. Definitely recommend this hike during the winter or early spring. A little hard to find, but worth it when you do!

1. Whoever said this hike is near Julian is dead wrong. It's actually 58 miles away. This trail is in the middle of nowhere - Ocotillo, CA.

2. We couldn't even reach the trail head because the 6.5 mile unpaved road was impassable by car. We tried for about a mile and almost got stuck in the 2.5 feet of sand. Hell no!

3. I wish we would have known what the conditions were like prior to driving the two hours out there. Hopefully this helps someone else.

Great trail - can also make this from Jacumba ending at Indian Hill.
Flowers were still great in April.
