Great!

Lots of shade and different loops where you can add on to your walk or run. Lots of blackberries and even grapes along the route. Easily loop on to other trails. We park near Mesquite. Plenty of choices to enjoy a snack at the end of your walk/run/bike trip. There are some small parks along the route where I saw water fountains. Plenty of places to get doggie poop bags

Walking

This was definitely a nice shady walk. Not hiking at all though as described. It’s a paved trail and you can see people’s back yards the whole walk. There are lots of little bridges though and my 3 year loved that. Great for a quick 3.5 mile walk or run. It was busy though. P.S. if you use this gps it will have you park in a Raleys parking lot.

Running

This is an extremely well-conceived and developed urban bike trail/jogging trail that follows two creeks that flow northeast-southwest through the middle of Folsom. The bike trail is in good shape and there are decomposed granite shoulders for runners along much of it. There's a good deal of wild area and wetlands along the trail, so it's great for birdwatching. At the southwest end you can easily connect with the American River Parkway along Lake Natoma. At the northeast end you can connect without much trouble to trails that run along Folsom Lake, such as the Browns Ravine trail, or that take you to El Dorado Hills. The one drawback -- not a very big one -- is that Humbug Creek and Willow Creek are two different creek/trail complexes, and it can be fairly easy to take a wrong turn and get lost when you're new to the trails. I run on the trails often and it took me a few runs to get my bearings and know where I was. The signage could be a little better. The City of Folsom should be commended for its foresight in developing this trail system. It's a wonderful recreational resource. A nice thing about the Humbug Creek portion of this trail is that there are trails that run parallel to both sides of the creek, so you can run on one side of the creek going one way and on the other side going the other way. I recommend that runners doing a loop run counterclockwise around the creek, because the shoulder is better for running on the left side closer to the creek, where the runners are supposed to be.

One section is washed out, but you can walk around it. Nice paved trail in town.
