Lots of vistas along the way, plenty of shade with a sunny downhill and light breeze at the end. Great hike!

Beautiful trail with diverse landscape; but be aware that the last portion of trail (where you exit the park and link back up with initial path) requires going under a barb wire fence or climbing over a gate.

HikingGreat!Over grown

Awesome loop that you can modify to your desired length. Relatively uncrowded and a nice mix of sun and shade. Beautiful all seasons and times of day. Ferns, manzanitas, berry bushes, and wildflowers (spring to summer) abound. We usually go right at the first fork to take Lower Huckleberry and do a counterclockwise figure 8 loop with Sibley’s Round Top Loop and back via Upper Huckleberry. You can also include any of Sibley’s various labyrinths and side trails before heading back. Can’t beat this natural paradise right in Oakland’s backyard.

Running

Went for my usual Sunday trail training run, and I always like to pick somewhere new with all there is to offer in the Bay Area, so I checked out this trail for the first time. Pros: Trail itself is wonderful, nice variations of elevations/incline, lovely forest scenery along with nice views in areas where the trail opens up. Challenging technical portions, overall great for training. The weather conditions today were perfect. Cons: WAY too many people. I’ll credit the aforementioned picturesque weather and that its a Sunday, but I found myself constantly stuck in traffic jams on many narrow portions of the trail. Repeatedly having to break pace is frustrating for a runner, especially when there is little space to pass and people are freaked out about being close to another human for a split second. Also, the trail is fairly difficult to follow without having to repeatedly stop to make sure you’re heading the right way. “Loop” is maybe a strong word, as the trail twists on top of itself in numerous places

Huckleberry loop was the best part of this trail run, rest was very muddy (to be fair, it was raining) so we took the paved road back to our car. Went counter-clockwise.
