Lots of stairs in the beginning. Make sure you make a right at the top so you avoid the very steep part going down. But you will end up going up this which is better. Poles would help in some parts. Nice views of the ocean through the trees.

Very steep in a few places beautiful hike! We are average hikers and it took 1.5 hours taking it easy.

Wasn't sure at the start near Veterans Memorial Park but after a couple of turns and some serious stairs it turned out to be a great hike. There were a couple of great views and we managed to see a rabit and two deer. Great workout and peaceful hike

Great trail to get the heart rate high. Condition of trail seems like it could be slippery in sections. A couple of the off shoot trails are a bit overgrown, all in all a good hike.

I would definitely recommend the trail but keep in mind certain sections are very slick/ steep. Great short trail but definitely tough- weather and views were beautiful. Would hike again with the above in mind.

A little muddy but still totally doable. More storm on the forecast the next few days so will likely need to dry out a bit after.

The trail was well groomed and easy to hike. There were tons of huckleberry brush with even a few berries!

Go before just before sunset so you can see Monterey at its best BUT park across the park (not in the parking lot to this place) because it closes at 6. Also, there are stairs so don’t go if you have knee problems. good if you’re trying to practice your enduro

Nice forest feel. Worth exploring all the different roads/trails at the top to see the best views.

Some steep hills. Great for cardio and a fun short hike.

A little confusing using All Trails since there are three different trail names that can be followed. Pays to view the map in the photo’s first.

We picked the hotest day to do this hike. There is no water on this trail and very dry location. Be sure to bring water. The hike was easy/moderate in exercise. The 185 steps was a good stair master workout... the terrain was basically dirt road or trail. A few open view of the ocean, otherwise just fallen pine tree's and not much else. Poison Oak was abundant when we went but the trail was not too overgrown. They had a "Basic" map that can be used to get through the hike. One can't really get lost thought. I have been on prettier hikes in Monterey. This one was similar to "Jack Peak". We only saw 1-2 other hikers. (Did this hike on Thrusday 11-1pm -2 hours at a very relax pace)

Rigorous course but there is also pretty moderate beginner trails you could take. Overall a great ride! Lots of quick turns narrow trails and awesome jumps!

Great hike for inclines and declines in a short distance: 2.37 miles. There are shorter trail options but I was trying to make the most of it. Summited at 751 feet. By clicking directions from app it linked to google maps which led me to a townhouse complex. The trailhead was actually a little lower just adjacent (above) Veterans Park. Like other review mentioned, maps are available at trailhead and are helpful. Such a tease at awesome views.

Good trail for a quick hike. A few steep sections to get your blood flowing. The trail head at Veterans Park has a box with trail maps in it that was very useful. Obstructed views from the ridge keep this from being a 5 star.
