we took the fire road side up and the narrow trail down.

Good trail run or hike with a mellow climb. I ran clockwise and counter clockwise with the pups and it seemed about the same. The top part is fairly exposed and the lower fire road is shaded. There are multiple ways to extend the distance or difficulty. One option is on the side furthest from the Crown parking/start, continue up that Blithesdale hill to Corte Medora road, then down Huckleberry trail, and return on the fire road. That adds about 2 miles and the uphill is long and steady.
