Hollywood Reservoir to the Hollywood Sign is a 6.6 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Los Angeles, California that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Horses are also able to use this trail.
This was a pretty long hike, it would have been nice on a bike or good for a hard jog, if you just want to see the sign there are better trails by the observatory, or parking spots closer to the sign. Most of this walk was on paved roads
Walk 19 in 10,000 Steps a Day in L.A., with a little of walk 18 (Hollywood Sign). Walk 18 was cut short when a siren and a man with a bullhorn threatening a $3000 fine caused me to turn around and head for the lake instead. The lake walk mostly meh, but walking over Mulholland Dam was cool.
Started at 8am with a 5 year old. A lot longer than we thought but well worth the walk. Got a little hot on the way back!
OVERALL Very beautiful views of the reservoir and mountains in the background. My biggest problem is the number of people that are just talking way too loud about themselves. NO ONE wants to hear about you. I would recommend coming here WITH noise/people cancellation earphones. I’d also love to just ride my bike here. If you want to see the Hollywood sign, best to come here after 11 am.
The Hollywood Reservoir is such a gorgeous place. Especially if you don’t want to commit to a full on nature walk. It is paved, it’s about 3.5 miles round trip, then you can walk off and follow the road up where you can see clearly the Hollywood sign. There is also levels of grass to take pictures and hang out. It goes on from there where you will find other trails. I see it as diverse , bc u can play it safe or explore more. I like having options.
We perfected the Hollywood Hills hike! This trail starts at the Hollywood Reservoir, then up to the back of the Hollywood sign and then over to the Griffith Observatory. We choose to Uber to the starting point and from the end point since it is always crowded and very hard to find a parking space. Enjoy!
