This is a great trail that follows the lake. There is an abundance of shade, swimming spots, and view points of the lake/ mountains. The bugs were out because of the moist warm summer day. The trail is easy to follow and we only saw one other couple.

(Memorial Weekend ‘19) Good trail if the weather wasn’t so damaging years prior. Tough to stay on the marked trail with all the down rubble and washouts, ended up having to turn around due to down trees and the trail disappearing. Other than that there are some good views with a couple nice beach spots.

The trail has some great views and dogs are welcome. It's not well marked or maintained and there's lots of poison oak so be careful. There are a couple of spots where it can be confusing to follow the trail; just after the start from Hirz Bay campground stay to the left rather than going down toward the lake also about midway take the switchback and go up the hill instead of gong toward the lake. Nice shade on a summer day though and there are restrooms and water at the campground.
