Hiking

Easter Day. Beautiful rolling green hills and views of Mt Tam & Mt Diablo- American Canyon, Vallejo, Benicia & Hiddenbrook. I think it’s the best time right now (spring time) while the hills are green and the temperatures aren’t too hot. Not a lot of shade. Lots of cow piles but easily to get around them. For our loop we hiked up the hills and then at the end went through the sidewalks of Hiddenbrook back to our car, parked at the very beginning of Hiddenbrook. About 5.25 miles in 2.5 hours. Made a bunch of stops to take in the beautiful views. My little doxie also loved the hike. (I didn’t realize that I didn’t fully record this hike. Bummer )

On the satellite imagery, you can see parking next to the freeway. This is no longer true -- the big boulders have been moved right up against McGary road. You can find parking (along the street) at the other end of the trail, but that's behind the gatehouse.

The first ~ 1 mile of the trail you walk along a paved road. The trail then continues into a fenced cow pasture. While there are pretty views, dodging cow pies in a pasture isn’t my idea of hiking. I wouldn’t do this trail again.

HikingMuddy

This is an okay hike. It has nice views, and a short, easy side hike can be done to reach the top of Sulfur Spring Hill, which has a fabulous view. My recommendation is that instead of doing this as an out-and-back hike, turn it into a loop as follows. Go to the turn-around point and instead of retracing your steps, hike through the Hiddenbrooke neighborhood until you reach the Hiddenbrooke Parkway, then follow the Hiddenbrooke Trail walkway back to the starting point.

HikingGreat!

Great trail with spectacular views of Mt. Diablo, Twin Sisters Peaks, and Mt. Tamalpais. Saw a Red Tailed Hawk, Western Bluebirds, California Scrub-Jay, and Tree Swallows, and an American Kestrel.

It's a nice trail with nice views and not too difficult. Beyond the fence it's literally a minefield of cow pies so watch your step. Also, if a herd of cattle is near your path, approach with extreme caution because there is a bull among them.

Didn’t do the whole thing partially because of parking (very limited) and also due to me being a little nice to myself (aka a little lazy lol). Really liked this trail! Great views, exposed and great exercise.

I loved this trail. Hadn’t been to any of the trails around my hometown and have always wanted to wander through the valleys. I had no idea it was possible. Trail seemed well maintained. We had a strange confrontation with a herd of cows on the 2nd half of the trail but it was otherwise tranquil and picturesque. The hills are golden when it gets hot, so I am glad to have caught it during a lush time of the year.

HikingOver grown

Began my hike from the shopping center. I made it halfway, but the other half towards the summit is too over grown. Thus, the trail is unusable and no longer visible....bummer. Last year, it was well kept. Otherwise, it’s a nice trail. Great views all around.
