NOTE: THERE IS VERY LIMITED PARKING AT STANFORD AVENUE STAGING AREA. IT IS BEST TO PARK AT OHLONE COLLEGE TO ACCESS MISSION PEAK: 43600 MISSION BLVD TO ANZA PINE ROAD. A steady climb of more than 2,000 feet in just over 3 miles, most of it on the Hidden Valley Trail, a well-graded dirt road, brings you to the top of Mission Peak, one of the East Bay's most dramatic summits, offering views of the entire Bay Area. This is not a trip for hot weather - the out-and-back route offers little shade. Bring extra clothes and a wind shell as this is a mountain environment which can quickly turn hostile. No bicycles on the single-track part of the Peak Trail.

Good hike for a good workout! Scenery is lacking. Lots of wind.

Did this at the end of October and was a great time since it wasn’t too hot. It was sunny so sun protection was still necessary as there was almost no shade. It’s a steady uphill ascent and my thighs were definitely burning. But....the view up top was worth it!! The only thing I didn’t like were the hoards of people also hiking....no parking!! That said, my friends and I enjoyed this and would so it again.

Great, challenging trail, but way too many people. Padt od the reason i like to hike is to escape nature, but its hard to do that here when entitled IT people endlessly ramble up and down the trail.

A heavily trafficked busy route to the popular Mission Peak from Stanford Ave staging area.

I have hiked this trail a number of times. On in itself it's great hiking trail with great views from top of mission peak. Over the years this trail has become really overcrowded. Many visitors are using it as outdoor fitness venue, which is also isn't bad idea, it has just lost the solitude and being in the connection to the nature for me. Please do not be discouraged with my negative review, it does deserve at least one visit from any hiking enthusiasts. Early morning hike when there is bit of fog cover is most rewarding when you reach the top.

Fantastic route: challenging + not too long and not too short + beautiful views (the only problem is parking but that is because lots of people know how great this route is).

Good hike. It provides a great workout. As many people have said, parking sucks even when you go early in the morning when the trail opens. One thing to watch out is for the cow droppings on the trail!

Nice hike, but there are a lot of people on the weekend. And parking sucks unless you get lucky.

Lots of people : not so much an issue on the trail as it is large all along but definitely an issue for parking. Nice climb (average slope 10%) and technical downhills. Lots of fun !

Nice hike, but too much of cows' poops with limited parking space

Steep climb. No shades. Excellent views at the peak. Very popular hike among locals.

Talk about an intense climb. Your heart will start pumping right away as it's all uphill with few flat areas. Once your at the top though it's just another big push up a steep, short incline and then a climb up the rocky top and then you're there. It's truly satisfying. The walk back puts another beating on your legs as it is all downhill. But once your done and look back at the peak from you're car you see just how far and how high you really can go.

Amazing views of the Bay. This hike is very popular, and there may even be a line to take pictures with the pole at the summit. There is no shade on most of the trail, so avoid it on hot days. The best time to go is the in spring when the hills are green.
