Description
Waypoints (0)

A steady climb of more than 2,000 feet in just over 3 miles, most of it on the Hidden Valley Trail, a well-graded dirt road, brings you to the top of Mission Peak, one of the East Bay's most dramatic summits, offering views of the entire Bay Area. This is not a trip for hot weather - the out-and-back route offers little shade. Bring extra clothes and a wind shell as this is a mountain environment which can quickly turn hostile. No bicycles on the single-track part of the Peak Trail.

We hiked the trail from mission peak trail head to Del Valle. Got a Lyft for the shuttle between the two points. First day beautiful but that night at Eagle Springs was very windy. The next day we had rain and hail for most of the day and all night. Last 2 days much more pleasant. Spent the last night at Stewart's Camp, we were the only ones there, very nice. Checked out Murrieta Falls, it's a fun scramble to get there.

Faster time since im more fit. Striving to finish with a better time... next time. Todays weather was the best. Cloudy and cold but once we got to the top. We were literally above the clouds and were touching the heavens. Blessed to witness this beauty!

Great for a quick hike/workout. Has moderate to steep elevation the whole way up. 1 - 2 hours to get to the top depending on time for stops to break or either take pictures or just take in the great views. Lots of wildlife on the trail up. I saw cows, turkeys, various birds, sqirrels and a small rattlesnake be warned. But the trail is wide and paved so if you stay on the trail your shouldn't have any problems with animals.

As a person who works out a lot ....wow this really does one on ya. Awesome views well worth the hike. Watch out for cow pies on the trail but you’ll be sweating by the time you get to the top

AMAZING VIEWS! Great workout going up because it’s a steep hike almost all the way. It took me 2 hours out and back because I stopped to take pictures and enjoy the views. The wildlife is phenomenal! Saw wild turkeys, cows, ravens, prairie dogs, squirrels, hummingbirds, and many different birds. The path is wide and well maintained. Make sure you wear hiking boots or tennis shoes.

Decent hike for people in the Bay Area, especially for fitness. Definitely not for people who are looking to hike in the woods. But the view of the Bay Area from the Mission Peak is wonderful.

Hiking

Did this at the end of October and was a great time since it wasn’t too hot. It was sunny so sun protection was still necessary as there was almost no shade. It’s a steady uphill ascent and my thighs were definitely burning. But....the view up top was worth it!! The only thing I didn’t like were the hoards of people also hiking....no parking!! That said, my friends and I enjoyed this and would so it again.

Great, challenging trail, but way too many people. Padt od the reason i like to hike is to escape nature, but its hard to do that here when entitled IT people endlessly ramble up and down the trail.

I have hiked this trail a number of times. On in itself it's great hiking trail with great views from top of mission peak. Over the years this trail has become really overcrowded. Many visitors are using it as outdoor fitness venue, which is also isn't bad idea, it has just lost the solitude and being in the connection to the nature for me. Please do not be discouraged with my negative review, it does deserve at least one visit from any hiking enthusiasts. Early morning hike when there is bit of fog cover is most rewarding when you reach the top.

Fantastic route: challenging + not too long and not too short + beautiful views (the only problem is parking but that is because lots of people know how great this route is).
