It's a great hike in an urban environment with 360 views from the top. The trailhead on Greenleaf is currently closed but there is another access point on Beverly.
CLOSED until further notice for maintenance.
It's called HELLman for a reason... holy shit was that incline the devil.
The entrance off Beverly is closed presently, was unsuccessful finding the alternate trail posted.
I'll surely discover another one! :-)
Closed!!!! This trail is closed for the next month or so. Went yesterday and was disappointed to find it fenced off and locked shut. I believe they will reopen march/April 2017
I love this hiking trail if you're up for the challenge Hellman trail is definitely the one to try!!! Beautiful scenery and sometimes if you're lucky you'll see some wildlife!!
Have been hiking this trail for 4 years and never tire of the hills that really get my heart pumping. At the starting point off Greenleaf and Orange you are hiking uphill for a good 3/4 of a mile. Elevation is not for the faint of heart. Prior to hitting the first big hill, there is a trail that veers around the mountain to the left which has an easier incline or you can take a trail to the right which takes you back down to the parking lot. There are lots of options once you reach the top of the first hill...more hills, more trails. The trail will be closing on Weds. the 18th for repairs for about 2 months so time to locate another trail. Maybe once Hellman reopens I'm hoping it won't be as congested as it has been and people will leave their pooping dogs at home.
limited parking on site. Be careful to park on the side streets as most nearby streets are for residents only but the streets on the other side of Beverly are OK to park. Moderate hike with many small hills to add for extra endurance. Hike without headphones so you can hear the bikers coming from behind.
