Very nice run, clear path and shady. A bit trafficked but got a late start I would imagine starting at 6 would be a safer bet. Two thumbs up!!

WalkingPrivate property

This is a walk through an urban park, definitely not a hike. There are nice areas in the park with beautiful, huge trees. The day I was there an egret was visiting the pond. The east end of the map includes a loop that just does not exist in real life. The map here needs to be modified. Someone else commented here about the same thing. Once you pass Los Coyotes Diagonal you approach the riverbed which is a concrete path with no shade. The map shows a hard right after you enter the river trail, but the only thing on the right side is a fenced in nursery with barbed wire. Even if there were a way through this very obvious private property, the Camp Fire Long Beach Council is on the other side of the nursery which is also fenced off with tons of signage to the effect of “video surveillance” and “violators will be prosecuted.” This is an ok walk, just bear in mind that the map is wrong on the east end and you’ll need turn around and head back in the same direction once you reach the riverbed. Unless of course you want to extend your walk and keep going south on the river trail.

Walking

The East section of this trail (from Woodruff to the riverbed) is undesireable. It is shady and lined with bougainvillea beauty right now, along a high wall, but it makes for a narrow dangerous biking/walking path. There is no bike path on Carson St. so cars are wizzing by very close to the sidewalk/bikepath. Not a pleasant walk. Map shows some kind of loop at the East end but we could find nothing but private property around there, therefore no loop. Unless you are trying to access the riverbed bike path there is no reason to be there, especially since the rest of the path to the west is so nice!

Nice trail for a walk; all paved. The worst thing about the trail is that it's along Carson Blvd for a good portion of the walk. If you're in rhe neighborhood & want some exercise this willget the job done.

Thousands of butterflies migrating North today. This trail is an East-West trail. What do the butterflies know that I don’t? This trail consists of connect parks with concrete park paths and street sidewalks with two bridges and a lake. There is a multi-station advanced challenge course on the path within Heartwell Park. Easy parking. Local appeal.

Very steep beginning...start slow to warm up...dusty and 76 degrees when I went - up to top and then over to towers and back. Used trekking poles which helped greatly for the steep down to parking lot. Note parking sucks 7 spots for many many hikers. Be patient for parking and beware permit parking accept those few in park spots. Great hike though and great views!

I love this park! I remember feeding the ducks in Heartwell Park when I was a kid.
