This is a good winter or early spring hike. It is convenient because it is in town. But from mid May-October be aware of the triple digits tempatures, zero shade on all of the hill trails, and very dry & brown grass. During the hot weather, instead of taking these trails, I just go around the perimeter of Hart Park, there is some shade when doing that.

I hike frequently up in the mountains but during quarantine decided to try out this since it’s close to home. I had high hopes but sadly was not impressed with this trail. Be prepared to share the trail with bikers, people off roading with motor vehicles, dogs not on a leash, large family groups, and inexperienced people who are not considerate. The trails are not really marked well and it’s more of just a ton of paths like a spider web of trails and you choose/guess which way to go along you hike. If you’re experienced hiker I do not recommend this unless you go on a day that’s not crowded and just want to experience it for yourself. Also to anyone new to this trail coming with a family don’t be the people who try to hike straight up the mountain side with a child bc you think the trail infront of the parking lot is where you start. The trail starts around the corner to the right up the driveway or the gradual uphill to the left.

Upside: I would recommend this trail to anyone that is looking for a moderate hike that will get you ready for the big one. Many trails to choose from, you don't have to stick to just one. Many rolling hills at the beginning of the hike as well as steep, but once you get passed them the terrain levels out. It's a great hike just to keep your legs conditioned, great for an individual, family and your four legged friends. You'll find that runners, walkers, hikers, trail cyclists, and etc use this area. Downside: People feel the need to use this trail as a dumping site, no shade and no trail markers to indicate which way to go, make your trail up as you go.

Pretty scenery, there are so many trails here, don't show up with a plan. Great for training for a bigger adventure or just a walk through golden fields. It really is one of the best places to go in Bakersfield.

Good workout but way better for mountain biking. Watch out for the dirt bikers and oil-dalions who take their guns out there to shoot. Seen a police chase out there because some dalions were shooting towards a busy street. No wildlife when I went. It is an okay quick get away from Bakersfield stress.

Great workout here on the bluffs. It’s local so we go often for a workout. Parking nearby is kinda sketchy, and the views aren’t very pretty. Don’t do this in summer as there is little to no shade. But if you are just looking for incline/decline training this is a great place to get it in!

nice hike. not spectacular scenery but nice. lots of variety in the trails. wouldn't suggest this in the summer, no shade.

So, I decided to try this trail out for the first time. It is a moderately tough trail due to the uneven paths. I'm guessing all the rain we received this year had something to do with it, of course. If this is your first time tackling this trail, I suggest doing the main trail a few times before taking on this one. This is not a walk in the park. I did encounter some wildlife. With that said, watch where you step as you may step on a rattlesnake as I almost did. Bring plenty of water because it does get quite dry. I made the mistake of not doing the easy trail first and because of that I kinda went off the trail. Most of the smaller trails are for bicycling/dirt bike/horse backing. I advise to stick to the walked trails.

Hiking the Hart Park bluffs is a bit like playing chess. After a few opening moves, the possibilities are virtually infinite (relative to what can be done in a human lifetime). Start your hike and then take your pick; long short, steep, gradual, mixed, safe, or dangerous. Hikers, bikers and dirt bikers are typically cordial and courteous. Minimal trash left on the trails by pigs.

Okay hike, a lot of traffic due to the park. Some of the trails were very steep, difficult for children.

There are so many paths to choose from, it's make your own trail type of paths! I got a bit lost using the trail given, but then I just made my own impromptu one! don't panic just go with the flow! The bikers are pretty friendly too so don't be intimidated, just stay vigilant and aware!
