Walk around Empire Mine State Historic Park and explore several smaller abandoned mines and 100 years of mining history Welcome to Empire Mine State Historic Park, home to Empire Mine, which was once the most profitable gold mine in California during the gold rush. This hike will take you around the Empire Mine site and past several smaller mines which were all eventually absorbed as part of the large mining operation at Empire Mine. Along this hike you will see old foundations and rusted machinery covering 100 years of hardrock mining history.

Nice wide trail, best to walk on weekdays. It gets a bit busy on weekends.

Great in-town hike with varied terrain and loop choices that ring the park grounds. Used by locals daily. You share the trail with fellow friendly hikers, bikers, horse riders, and dogs on leash. Return so you can experience the historic state park gold rush learning inside the gate.

My whole family loved it. Our little army ranges in age from 8 to 40 years old. Easy and fun for all.

What a great day. Hiked with good friends after enjoying a wonderful lunch at one of the many shaded picnic tables. I will definitely be doing this one again.
Has just enough traffic so a lone hiker will feel safe. Park has easy to follow signs and more than one trail to choose from.
A definite 5 rating!!!!

Great for families and dogs that love to be leashed. Grateful they have preserved this piece of history and that it has geocaches here. I would call this a neighborhood park more than a place to hike.

This was a wonderful hike for our family. We will have to go again and see if there is another way to end the 5 mile loop. The last stretch was next to the busy road, which it why I only gave it a 4 instead of 5, but the rest of the trail was wonderful.

Beautiful loop. You can see the mine grounds, but can't enter without a fee - although the museum/visitors center is free. Some steep climbs.

I took my over 50's ladies group up to hike a couple of the trails. We all made it okay but you I have to take into consideration you most definitely are hiking up and down a mountain. The paths are well used/maintained but there is a steep grade. The trails are used by lots of people so they are busy so not a whole lot of peace and quiet. It's nice that there are state maintained restrooms at the mine. Poison oak is on the sides of the trails so watch the kiddos and pets. We will do this trail again.

I go there all of the time. There are a number of different length trails. The woods are quiet yet close to civilization. The mining museum and mansion are well worth seeing.

This is an awesome trail, they have done a lot of improvements, it's quiet and woodsy, feels like you're in the forest yet you're in the middle of town. The convenience to get to makes it a regular place for me to jog, bike, hike and stroll with my city visitors! I have logged as much as 6 miles or you can do as little as 1,your choice. Include union Hill and you can do even more. The hill climbing helps give great workout in short amount of time, or avoid the hills and just enjoy the flatter trails. Dogs love it, horses are enjoyable to pass along the way. If you go in summer, start early.

Nice short trails to take the dog when I don't have a lot of time. Some beautiful buildings and landscaping on the grounds. I had previously only hiked the trails but never visited the paid area, definitely worth the trip and so cool that its so dog friendly. You don't see that often in a state park
