Decent trail but I didn’t really enjoy it. More of a huge circle.

This park needs DESPERATELY to be cleaned up- there is trash everywhere. It smells like trash and feces (there is a considerable amount of horse shit covering the trails and I even saw a couple of horse riders). Saw some pieces of clothing combined with the extreme amount of trash- there are likely homeless camps here that you do not want to intrude upon. The way the trail takes you starts in the field area and eventually empties out into a wide-open gravel field with patches of shrubbery. Lots of graffiti and even some makeshift-looking structures. I have never felt more sketched out on a walk around a lake.

As previous people have said, there is no safe way to cross the water, and it is almost half paved, so I wouldn't really recommend it for trail running

The dam ride is nice but short. There is no like loop someone else has posted. The path is there but not for bicycles. So as far as a ride is concerned, meh, regular cardio, great spot.

The trail starts on pavement with great mountains view and then continues on sand and earth through trees. There is also a lake and a soccer field on the way where you can sit under trees to rest.

The Hansen Dam Recreation Area is an urban park with very close hiking opportunities for individuals living in the San Fernando Valley and surrounding communities. I sought out this area when the immediate effects of the Woolsey Fire were still being felt. The lake is very nice with pleasant views from it's shoreline. This is an urban park with urban park issues. There is a great deal of trash along the trails. There are many paths cut by individuals straying from the main trails. This makes following a specific route sometimes challenging. If you stray from the main trail, it is possible you'll stumble onto a homeless camp..It's not a safety issue so much as it feels like your invading another individuals space.

I thought this trail was a nice walk, no treacherous terrain or anything like that. I was a little disappointed because the loop that it claims that it is was unable to be completed on foot. Part of the loop is a Bridle Path and was so under water by the creek that it was impossible to cross on foot, unless you want to get soaked... No it was unfortunate I had to go back along the concrete path to finish it but overall it was a nice walk

the hike was pretty easy but some of the off trails end up dead ends so you have to be careful also it's hard to get across the stream in some places and we didn't see any birds it's supposed to be a refuge but there's plenty of water and the lake is big

I love this spot. It's great for running, walking, or biking. I wouldn't necessarily call it "hiking" because it's a flat surface the entire length. It's 3 miles total. 1.5 miles from the start to the end and 1.5 miles back. I tracked this trail on my fitbit and you only get 3 miles total if you go ALL the way to the end. (This includes running on dirt not concrete). It's the perfect spot for an outdoor run because you get sun and you don't need to worry about any cars nearby. You also get a great view of some mountains. Thanks Hansen Dam.

good work out as far as running 4 miles from beginning to the dirt loop in the back people can get your way at times besides that great place to log in some miles

as soon as I got there, it was pretty clear that the directions function had overshot our destination. but ready for adventure I could see the dam's edge and took my dog on a winding route to it. needless to say, we never made it to the dam. there was broken glass and garbage every where, two homeless encampments, and all kinds of shit (literal feces from every type of animal). perhaps the bike route is maintained and lovely as everyone else says. JUST DON'T USE this app's direction mode for this hike. you'll end up somewhere you don't want to be.

I've lived in PACOIMA for 7 years and wasn't previously impressed with the Hansen Dam. But in the last two years, especially 2016, the Hansen Dam has seriously upped its trail game! I'm officially a fan! No more long drives to get in a nice hike!

Approximately 4.48 miles if you park in the lot with the solar lights by the Ranger station. Turn right onto Dronfield from Osborne, the lot at the top of the dam right off Osborne is often full. Keep in mind this is a city park so be careful of debris, shopping carts and the occasional homeless. Most of the visitors to the park walk across the paved dam and back. Once you are off the dam the paved portion leads off onto Wentworth Street and there's several dirt pathways that are unmarked. Bear left and down the hill into the basin. Likewise for crossing the Little Tujunga Creek in the middle, there's multiple pathways but the one on the All Trails app is the best/easiest. I hiked two loops for a total of 9.51 miles.

nice little XC track. careful with the horse "gifts" on the road... nice place to do a couple of fast laps. flat terrain but sandy spots slow you down.... overall a nice place to burn some calories. good for newbies.
