prefer this to the quicksilver 5 mile loop trail. dense oak forests cover the hillsides. plenty of shade to tackle even on a hot summer day...

TICKS! Did this hike yesterday, I found 10 ticks on my dog afterwards. That’s the most he’s ever had in almost 9 years, with frequent hiking. The trail is fine, but if you’re going out any time soon consider tick repellent and check yourself and your dogs afterwards.

Loved the more secluded sections of the trail. Amazing hike!

Fun hike to do in the spring time. Lots of green plants. Most of the creeks have dried out, unfortunately. The hike starts off uphill (good workout) and ends mostly downhill. There are a Lot of families on the hike, dogs, and individuals who bike/run the trails. Parking was free.

Did this hike with my son on 9/2/2017. It was a very hot day so started early. Plenty of vegetation and shade. Beautiful views. There are sit outs and picnic tables on the trail. It is quite steep in some places. Enjoyed this hike. Will definitely do it again some time.

It is poorly titled... this is Mockingbird Hill... Hacienda would be farther south in AQ.

Moderately challenging at some points. Well shaded in many areas. Found a few geocaches. Beautiful vegetation. Family friendly - our kids are 6 and 8. I may not recommend under 5 for kids (unless you are carrying them) as there are a couple steep climbs. Very scenic.

Great hike with some good elevation and views. Part of Hacienda Trail is closed due to washouts, so we returned by another trail.

This is a great trail for stamina in that both sides is straight uphill for the first .93 miles
Hacienda trails is a memory now onto the next hike!!!

Easy hike. Nicely shaded. There's a left over foundation from an old mine which was really cool. Just watch your step in the rocky area as you can easily twist your ankle if not careful.

Trail is a bit beaten by all the rain, but beautiful and well shaded. Be ready for water crossings and ankle turning areas right now.

This is truly one of my favorite trails in the South Bay. Gorgeous oak trees with dappled shade grow up to the trail with little streams that cross the path in the winter. We did the trail after a huge storm had passed a few days earlier, so there was lots of water, erosion in the path, and broken limbs/felled trees. Due to the climate in this area, there was very little mud since the path is constantly exposed to the sun. Definitely a must-do in the winter, but only early in the day in the summer. There's some cool ruins of the old Buena Vista foundation on Randol Trail where they mined for cinnabar and mercury ore. Lots of baby plants/new growth line the trail in the undergrowth right now thanks to all the rains, and a few wildflowers were spotted as well! (did this trail in the middle of January).

Enjoy, keep it clean, and drink plenty of water!

Did it in under 2 hours. Started at 8, before the sun was out, so it was great! Some slopes are definitely steep but that just adds to the character of this trail.

it was quite hot and looked like a desert. the scenery was beautiful in a couple places but not too much shade, so try not to go on a hot day. the steep trail can also be slippery so be careful going down!

Hacienda is not your friend but your booty will thank you. These hills are steep and long. Definitely will feel accomplished after.

Very nice views but to get there you need to go through a bit strenuous climbs.
Not recommended for a hot days. The trail is mostly in the open area so you get tired quite easily.

Great for kids! Most of the hike has shade and that definitely helps

Took the back way and started out on Vital Trail... Steep enough to give me a great leg & bun workout... Then enjoyed the 2 overlooks that I came across to take a breather... Rounding the end of the trail it gets quite steep... Slipped once and then took it slow... It's not an easy trail by far... I'd say moderate... Beautiful views of San Jose.... Not much wildlife... A few people on the trail... Not crowded on a Monday! Oh there are park rangers that drive through on occasion. Nice trails... Worth the effort!

My family and dogs love these trails! Depending on our energy level, we have three choices of short, medium , and long hikes here. It's beautiful! Full views of San Jose valley floor, creeks, turkeys, hawks and deer. Love this trail!

Hot Hot Hot and dry...and it was only May! Definitely bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and lip balm. The history of mercury mining is something to pay attention to. Place-based education at its best with the plant & animal communities alongside rusted buildings and polluted waters that are the reminders of our lasting cultural impact.
