Started at Muir Beach parking lot and hiked counterclockwise. Most of the trail is open with no shade. The trail goes straight through the Green Gulch Farm Zen Center, which consists of retreat facilities and an organic farm. The Zen Center is private property and needs to be accessed through a gate, but they have posted welcome signs (nice) and visitors are free to hike through.

Lovely views of the rolling hills and ocean. Had to walk through the grounds of a zen center to get to the loop trail (don't be too shy to open the gates), which was a little awkward but interesting. Pretty easy climb up, then gradual descent. We saw a lizard, snake and coyote. Lots of pretty flowers. Fun going to Muir Beach afterward, which is right next to the trailhead.

My husband and I loved this hike. This hike was perfect for us, not too intense but not too easy either. The view of the coastal line and nature was breath taking.
