HikingGreat!Rocky

This was a great moderate hike. The lake at the top was beautiful, and it was a quiet and peaceful hike during the ascend. The views on the way were breathtaking - lots of trees and other mountains nearby. Ankles were quite sore after going back down due to loose rocks and the descend. Did this with our dog and she enjoyed it as much as we did.

Beautiful all the way to the lake. Little confused because sign says East lake, west lake, green lake, turns out what we thought was East lake, was green lake. This is on our list to comeback to!

I'll start by saying that the trail listed here is more than many people go. Most people just go to Green Lake (~3 miles in) or continue up to West Lake or East Lake (An additional 1.5 miles either direction). Bugs GALORE. Wildflowers were beautiful as this is a wet trail. The trail is lovely - shaded and very minimal incline. I am terrible with uphill but you hardly notice the gain. To Green lake is about 1,000ft over 3 miles. The climb to West lake (not shown here) is steep and hard - but worth it as West Lake is in a hanging Valley. East lake is an easy trek from Green Lake. If you go soon after the winter season the trail does become soggy and the snow melt runs right onto the trail. Green Lake is beautiful and worth the trek, even as a day hike. Need a beginner backpacking trip? Start at VIRGINIA LAKES trailhead, hike over the summit to Summit Lake (~5 miles), camp at Hoover or Gilman Lake (just above East Lake) then hike out the next day at Green Creek Trail. You need to Caravan but other than the initial 1,000ft summit, the remaining ~9 miles are down hill and you hit all the good spots.

Had planned on hiking from Virginia Lakes, over the summit and back to Green Creek Trail head. However, the winds were picking up fast and I had been sick the last day so decided to hike Green Creek to Green Lake. Winds were not too bad until we got to the lake and then they were incredibly strong. All and all a good hike.

My favorite hike by far in the Eastern Sierras. Stunning wildflowers and terrain. Green lake is such a treat at the end of a long trail. I’d rate the trail condition as moderate. Not much shade so bring your sunscreen

Trail is clear of snow and the wildflowers are INSANE here right now (July 13th, 2019). Green Lake is at full pond and the seasonal waterfalls are FLOWING!! The mosquitos are in full swing so don't forget your deep woods and I hiked with a head net for added comfort. No crazy river crossings, just some creek hopping. From trailhead parking lot to the lake and back is 6.4 miles round trip per Strava. The road to get here is long and wash board-y, but it's worth it, I promise!

Took the family up to Green Lake and couldn’t have been more impressed by the breathtaking views. The water is really high, which made a couple creek crossings difficult but overall a great hike!

First to Review

This used to be our signature trip at Leave No Trace Adventures using East Lake as our first night of 5. This is from memory from a few years ago so please correct me where needed. Trail begins at Green Creek, first day is about 4 miles 1.2k or so elevation gain pretty easy but decent push with a six day load. Again less miles hiked on first day, a common theme in most our trips as we leave time for rest and enjoyment. Day two is a shade under 4 miles hiking past Hoover Lakes and camping at far end of Summit Lake at 10k+ elevation, no fires. Opportunities to bag an easy peak and relax. Day three finds us hiking down into and through Virgina Canyon towards back door of Yosemite. Meandering along the water and through fields of avalanched timber to camp at 7 miles beyond the river crossing at the horse camp if available. You can also choose the extra 2 miles uphill :-) to the lower McCabe lakes if exiting via 20 Lakes Basin as we do. The last one or two days leaves you with an off trail trek of less than 2 miles as you follow the creek up to upper McCabe Lake. You can camp for the night or continue off trail up to Shepherds Crest and out via the cairn trail to 20 Lakes Basin and the boat ride back across the lake to shuttle back to the cars! Most clients always remark at how different each day seems geologically and visually. Plus the off trail finish via Shepherds Crest for most novice hikers is a thrill and an accomplishment by this stage of the trip. I'd say for the properly prepared and conditioned it's mostly a moderate hike at this pace with a bit of demanding for fun. Hope this helps and remember, leave no trace.
