This trail is currently CLOSED as of December 1st until june or july 2018. it is a breeding ground for bald eagles and the forest service has banned people from entering that part of the mountain. They will fine the people who ignore the notices and still hike the trail. Butler Peak trail is open and only about a mile further into Fawnskin.

Really Nice Trail. Well maintained. Perfect for jogging or walking your dog. Open views, everything is nicely spaced and it has great views of the lake and surrounding areas.

This hike was well rounded! Scenery is beautiful. It is moderate in difficulty. Great distance. Wanted something different than Couger Crest so this was perfect! Will definitely do again.

Great mountain and lake views from the north side of Big Bear lake. It's a long hike but worth the views at the end. Parking pass is required.

My girlfriend and I and our dogs did this hike again yesterday. We got a late start and it was a bit windy up at the top but what a fantastic view and scenery all the way up. It rained on us on the way down but only lightly and the weather was still very nice. Great elevation gain and nice marked trail.

I did not find it scenic. trail is pleasantly strenuous due to the elevation gain. So return trip was quick. at the top it was windy. views from the top are interrupted by the trees etc. imo, it's not worth climbing up expecting views in the end. trail looked good for the mountain biking. also dog friendly. I encountered no mosquitoes. was wearing vibrams and tank top to beat the September Sun. we were busy having conversation and lost our way going up, only to realize after a km that we were on the wrong path. markings are pretty distinct though. parking could be limited. 15 or so spots. parking pass for $5 can be picked up from the convenience store half a mile or so towards the north shore. don't park off the markings. we saw 3 vehicles getting ticketed for parking in front of the restrooms.

Although it's long, it's a fairly moderate hike. It is a steady climb with amazing views and ever-changing scenery. The top is a great place to capture some views and stop for lunch. Would highly recommend!

Such a great hike!! Beautiful views the entire way up with the grand finale being incredible! Trekking up 1300ft then down again isn't easy on your body so wear good shoes, comfortable clothes and bring plenty of water! The summit (unlike most others) had plenty of sitting area! Happy Hiking!

great hike, best view of big bear lake you can get, well worth the hike to the top.

Beautiful scenery especially in the Fall. Watch the mountain bikes some of those riders go fast and before you know it they're on top of you.

Super nice trail. Started early in AM on a Wed. and did not see a soul until the peak. Would do this again. My Aussie was off leash the entire trip. Came across a high school x-country track team. Very nice kids.

I enjoyed this hike because of the scenery. It was relaxing and a great workout at the same time.

One of the best trails I have done in California.

The trail around and at the top isn't very great for a view and is blocked by many trees. If you venture of the trail slightly when your around the top you will have breathtaking views all around you.

Amazing views! And they kept getting better towards the end of the trail. Took me bout 2 hours round trip, but mostly because I stopped often to take photos. Great experience!

Well marked trail. Pretty much a moderate climb on the way up. It's about 7 miles round trip. Felt long on the way back! Beautiful view at the peak. Travels through an old burn area. I only saw a couple people on the way up, but several groups on the way back. Several well-behaved dogs. Everyone was very nice. I was hoping to see some eagles but no luck. Lots of little animals and birds. A coyote actually crossed the road on my way there. Parking area is a little small and requires adventure pass. Nice restroom in the lot. Overall a great hike! I believe it closes for the eagle nesting in Oct. so go now.

Low traffic on a Wednesday morning in mid September. Moderate rating due to elevation gain only. Footing mainly good, with a few rocky patches and minimal rock scrambling at the peak. Nice lake and forest views. Took 1 hr 45 mins up, 1 hr 35 mins down. Would do this again.
