Walking

The trail going down hill is good. Once you get to the bottom you can hear the water running down the stream, that was nice to hear. It was a last minute quick hike. But returning up the hill, YIKES!! That’s a challenge and extremely good workout! However I wouldn’t recommend it for kids or small dog’s maybe large hyper dogs ok? But not kids or anyone with heart problems.

The Gould Mesa Road part of the trail wasn’t very interesting, but can serve as a good cardio workout on the way back. No shade until reaching Gould Mesa Trail Camp. The actual walk along the creek was really nice, there were a few times we need to cross the creek which added quite some fun. Except the Gould Road Mesa Road portion, this trail is very good for a hot day if you want to escape from the heat, but it can get crowded.

This trail is essentially another entrance to the Gould Mesa campground that is a part of the arroyo seco creek area. It’s okay - minimal shade until you get to the camp area. The actual creek is very nice but can be very crowded. Basically an old access road until the creek itself. Nothing super crazy, no rad views or anything, and a decent workout hiking back up to the parking area. May be worth trying this entrance once to check it out.

This was a lovely, shaded creekside stroll. Many stream crossings right now. Not crowded during the week, but look out for bikers. Other than the hill at the end it's not really exercise, so don't head here for cardio, but it was perfect for a walk with a friend.

Besides the mile or so down into the canyon it’s a pretty easy going hike. Nice scenery and the sound of running water all along the hike. Went on a weekday and didn’t run into many other hikers / mtn bikers.

I’ve walked this a few times. It’s pretty and a nice climb back out. It would be nice if people could pack out their trash and dog poop bags.

Really great hike. Unexpectedly so. Watch out for mountain bikers if you’re walking, as some of the trail is narrow. It rained recently, so the creek was flowing and got to jump over it in places. There was a waterfall at the end too. Parking: about 12-15 spots outside the service gate.

Once you get down to the trail, it’s really nice. Lots of stream crossings right now due to the recent rain, so be prepared to get your feet wet. Plenty of mountain bikers & dogs on the trail too. Hiking back up the roadway to the parking area is a great workout!

This was a nice hike we brought our dog along. First mile is an access road that has no coverage and leads down to the campground. The rest of the trail has lots of coverage. There’s a lot of nice flora on the trail and many water crossings, which really helped cool off our frenchie. We were so proud of her for making it all the way, but going back up the access road was a bit difficult for her.

The sun sets at 6:30pm today, we started at about 3:40pm and had shade most of the way with exception of parts of the first mile that was paved road. Sound of the running creek was great but it was a bit buggy. Lost cell service when we reached the campground. Doing about half way and turning around was plenty exercise for my two small dogs (~15 lbs each).
