HikingGreat!

I started the hike about 9:30 am which was too late given the full sun exposure. I would recommend starting earlier; for me no later than 8am would be best. And bring lots of water- I had 3 litres. Trail has a good mix of sun and shade, and I would rate it as somewhat steep. My hiking poles were of great help to me. Because of the heat today, I was only able to complete 3/4 of the hike before I turned around. I didn't go to Gunsight lookout. It was scorching hot. I consider myself an a moderate hiker; but the hills got me. But I will definitely try this trail again; I will have to start much much earlier. Note that there are no bathroom facilities along the way. Great trail, pace yourself and enjoy the view.

Trail is very well maintained. Not crowded and good mix of sun and shade. Trail is steep and pretty difficult. Worth it for the views at the top

One of my all time favorites! A nice mix of sun and shade. You’ve got to check out Gunsight Rock when you reach the top, stunning views of Sonoma Valley.

HikingGreat!

Pretty steep trail. I had it clocked at about 8 miles with the addition of Gun Sight lookout. Real gain was about 2400', with about 200' otw back. Bring water, it gets hot. Very pretty hike!

so how long is it? all trails lists as 5.9 miles out and back, but when you get to the top, it says 5 miles back to the road, making it a 10 mile hike, which seems kinda longer than it felt. Anyhow it is gorgeous, with amazing views. I would take trek poles if I go again to deal with rockiness.

Beautiful trail. Pretty steep and strenuous, especially the top 1/3. Areas of this hike burned in 2017 fires with scars still visible, but still very scenic despite this.

Very challenging but worth it! The elevation gain is brutal and some of the trail is very rocky with little shade. Please don’t let that scare you because the views are incredible. On a clear day you can see for what feels like forever. Trail is very well maintained and marked. Parking can be a little limited but the trail head is super easy to find. Highly recommend!!

I thought this trail was pretty easy until we passed the Nattkemper bench, which is when it got really steep and strenuous. AllTrails lists this trail as 5.9 miles round trip but I clocked it 8.2 on my Fitbit (phone died on my way down). Very rocky as you get higher so try to protect those ankles. No shade.

Incredible work out! Involves some scrambling. The views and elevated heart rate make it all worth it. Not puppy friendly :-(

Wow what a beautiful trail. Very well-maintained, little bit of poison oak creeping around at the edges, but no big deal.

Not the easiest but not the hardest. There's a brook where you need to hop over some rocks and then farther up some big jagged rocks to climb but it's worth it.
