Golden Gate Gems - Hawk Hill, Kirby Cove, and Battery Spencer is a 7.3 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Sausalito, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for walking, running, nature trips, and bird watching and is accessible year-round.
This hike captures the best of the Golden Gate Bridge Marin side. Kirby Cove is a hidden gem, there is a rope swing hanging from a tree on the beach, you can also camp overnight. It's a must see! Also be aware that when you are heading up to Hawk Hill you want to take the one-way road at the end headed to Point Bonita Light House. The road to Hawk Hill might be temporarily closed due to high traffic. It gets crazy with tourists up there but it is well worth the stunning views. Also, bring layers, the weather can get hot then cold and windy.
Most of it is next to a road. But the views are still spectacular, even though you’re hiking along with cars and bicycles. It veers away from the road at Hawk Hill and on the fire road going down to Kirby Cove. 3 Batteries are at your disposal on this hike.
Beautiful weather and absolutely stunning views. Highly recommend this trail! I started late in the day so I was only able to do half of the trail. I will be returning to complete it with a friend soon.
Didn’t like that a majority of the trail is along the road. I’d rather just park closer to Kirby Beach and do the mile hike down. Quite a bit of people fishing on the beach, but still a good spot for a picnic.
Hike was mostly along the road. The highlight was the walk near the steps and walk down to see Kirby cove. I would recommend doing hawk hill hike and Kirby cove separately instead of walking on road for remaining parts of the hike.
