Death Valley National Park charges a fee to enter. Fees are $30 per vehicle or $25 per motorcycle. If you are entering on foot, horse, or bike the fee is $15 per person. You can also purchase a park specific annual pass for $55. The Golden Canyon Trail is a short hike up Golden Canyon to the base of the Red Cathedral formations. This is a popular day-hike that starts at a marked trailhead with parking on Badwater Rd., just south of Furnace Creek. The first mile of the the trail is a mild hike up a canyon surrounded on all sides by golden rock formations and slot canyons. After mile one reaches a junction for the Gower Gulch trail. Continue past this point into a narrow slot canyon. The trail becomes more difficult here, requiring one to scramble over rocks until reaching the top of the slot canyon and the base of Red Cathedral. The view at the top here is spectacular! After enjoying the top, head back down and out of the slot canyon. Then either hike back down Golden Canyon to the trailhead, or extend the hike and take the junction for Gower Gultch. As anywhere in DVNP, the heat can be extreme, even outside of summer. Carry extra water!

Gradual incline the first half to the red cathedral. Nice short hike overall with amazing views at the midway point. Definitely have to do a bit of scrambling/climbing to get to the top, but views are worth it!

We got a late jump and decided to do the loop after Red Cathedral. The jaunt up to Red Cathedral is definitely worth it if you enjoy a little scrambling, climbing, maybe crawling along your journey! I would do this one again! There isn’t any real steep ascents. Just expect it to be a quick adult playground to the top. Enjoy!

HikingGreat!

Second hike of the day. I wasn't she if we made it to where we were supposed to go. It felt like we were at the Red Cathedral but there were no markings. There was 3 other groups with our predicament. other than that it was fantastic and fun stuff to look at.

This trail is awesome! It gets really until the end. It gets pretty steep and rocky at the end. It’s also very tight spaces you need to climb through at points but super cool. I saw a couple people hit their head on the rocks in smaller spaces so just be careful.

Is about 2mi each way if you go to red cathedral. HIGHLY recommend. The views are gorgeous. Yellow and green hills. We went around sunset. Took us about 2hrs taking our time. It is a bit uphill. There are tons of slots on the side you can go through but it is definitely easy to get lost and they are quite strenuous. There are some slots that you climb through and have to climb under but nothing too tough. Gloves are helpful as the rocks are shape but not required.
