Northeast side of Commonwealth Canyon Drive. Golf course will be to the west. Dirt trailhead is just north of Vista del Valle Drive. To get to the lookout, take a right onto the dirt trail.

Moderate rating is accurate - some nice and steady parts, some challenging uphill parts. Trail starts slow and shady but once you hit the bridge it gets pretty steep and exposed. From the observatory lookout and down is a little hairy - trail is steep and dry, so it’s easy to slip. It gets super busy in the late morning with lots of tour groups, and the parking lot fills up. Get there by 9am and you’ll be fine for parking.

It is a nice trail with wonderful views of LA as well as Glendale. We started a little late which meant difficulties in finding a parking spot and higher temperatures. The trail is a little slippery and steep in places so caution is advised. Well worth it, though.

the "directions" through AllTrails take you a bit further than you need to go for the trailhead. This hike begins at the Riverside Trailhead, best and easily accessed by parking in Lot G, just across the street. There is also a restroom at the parking lot. Great hike, with excellent views. Bring enough water, especially if you go when it is hot. The side trail to Glendale Peak seems to be overlooked by most hikers, so I had it all to myself.

The View is amazing considering how easy the trail is. And the top little resting area is really cool. There’re lots of chairs on the top, super nice with shade. And it’s very romantic too somehow. Highly recommended. You can see the view of the whole city and the mountains on the other side. Great. I will be back for sure:)

Description is pretty spot on. Agree with the moderate rating (most moderates I think are easy); after about 30 mins you hit a pretty steady incline that takes you to the top. Very little shade, make sure you have a hat / sunscreen / lots of water! Started at 8:45am, lots of parking avail (but it was full when I got back around 11). Nice views all the way up. I took a detour to the viewpoint, which isn’t on this trail map. The section on the way down that looks directly at the observatory is a little hairy (steep and loose gravel). Finished the whole thing in 1H20M with some stops for photos on the way. There were 2 tour busses parked at the trailhead, so it definitely gets busy.

I would recommend anybody visit LA area to try this trail once, not too hard trail(one hour incline effort needed) even with kids and dogs, great view from top of Hollywood Mt and Dantes peak, never be disappointed.

We really liked this LA hike. It wasn’t too crowded and we went on a cloudy Sunday afternoon! It was the perfect amount of uphill to make us sweat. Also great views!

Love this trail! A good moderate hike - there are some decent hills, but many parts are flat. Not too bad overall. Absolutely amazing views! You can see the city, Glendale, Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood sign! Free parking at the bottom, but get there early on weekends!

Awesome hike! Beautiful views. A handful of steep parts but not terrible. If you do the loop, the way down is VERY steep so just be careful. HAVE FUN!

For reference I only recorded getting to the flower patch so if you are estimating amount of time it will take you, include round trip to be twice as long. I went at a leisurely pace. Make sure to take a hat. There is no shade. Very nice established trail and easy hike to the flower patch. The bottom of the flower patch is very steep. If you continue uphill from the patch of flowers, it gets much steeper and has loose sand that makes it a bit slippery.

Solid option. I usually disregard moderate ratings as easy but jokes on me. There are actually moderate inclines. Parking was easy at the Greek and we jumped onto the trail somewhere across the street. Bring more water than you think you'll drink - trail is pretty dusty. There will be a consistent stream of dogs and people which can be really fun depending on how much you like dogs or people. The trail itself seems to be listed as/follow Riverside View on the signposts? so I had to open up my phone a few times just to make sure we were on the right path.

Great trail! Beautiful views and not too intense. Like many trails in LA, there’s not a whole lot of shade, so prepare accordingly. Also a few “dodgy” areas (slippery/steep) hills on the way back down, but nothing some good tread can’t handle! Really really enjoyed the hike and the beautiful views!

Wonderful hike with a handful of steep inclines. I love doing this hike in the early mornings when it's not too crowded. When the weather is clear it offers great views of downtown. Parking is easy - next to the Greek Theater or in the neighborhood down the street in Los Feliz.

Took a wrong turn at the top towards Hogback trail and ended up running another 1.5 miles. The dotted lines aren’t necessarily trails and I don’t recommend using them on the map. Scrambled a huge hill and nearly avoided serious injury sliding down. Great views, recommend trail shoes, nothing to sketchy but a few loose foot holds summiting the peak. (Once you’re on the right trail).

Slow and steady wins the race.

Nice and steady trail throughout. great views of greater Los Angeles. Parking can be a hassle though.
