HikingGreat!

The view from the start of the trail is one of the most spectacular around Tahoe, I’d say. It’s a 1 mile rock-laden road as there are remote cabins further back as well as a surprise to see Glen Alpine historic camp. The golden fall color is in full swing. Be sure to wander over to the water sources to get your majestic views of the water, granite walls and jagged peaks! Walk as far as you want, then just turn around when ready.

We just caught this trail before the US Forest service closed all trails due to fire conditions. Very smokey and poor visibility. There was a lot of tree work going on. Loud chainsaws and work traffic. The falls were pretty, but not much water. There were a lot of dangerous trees ready to topple, guess that's why the tree service was on duty. Easy hike, except for large gravel path at the beginning. Watch your step.

Nice hike. For the most part it is as wide as a narrow single lane road, narrows up later on at parts and when it merges with other trails. Only thing that detracted was the gravel/rock nuisance. The first part of the hike was pretty much all gravel. It got much better later on.

Trail was easy to follow, one lane road was a little challenging getting here with a lot of cross traffic but worth the time . The gravel on the hike early wasn’t the beat but if you have hard bottom shoes that shouldn’t be a problem

Only giving four stars because the gravel is pretty irritating to walk on. Overall great hike, not too difficult and there’s a nice place to swim at the end. There is some shade coverage on random parts but it was pretty hot midday.

Starting on the Glen Alpine Trail decided to go to Grass Valley Lake. Glen Alpine is interesting and you can read some of the history as you pass the small enclave. About 2 miles in you’ll see the sign for Grass Valley. It gets fun from here as you loosely follow the stream up to the lake. Great views of waterfalls and cascades along the way. Great hike, 6.9 round trip.

Trail is not for the weak of heart. Three different log crossings over creeks, incredibly rocky terrain and lots of long stretches without shade, but it all pays off when you get to grass lake. Beautiful and pristine water with very little foot traffic around.

Great trail on a warm November day. Perfect for all levels as the hike gets more technical about 2 miles in.

Great trail up to Grass Lake in Desolation Wilderness. The beginning is pretty rocky, but most of the trail is well-maintained. Definitely worth it to make it to the lake!
