Tips

Drive to the best view in all of Yosemite. This 270-degree view of the Valley, Half Dome, and 3 Falls will amaze you. Glacier Point is a popular stop for many new visitors to Yosemite National Park on their way down to Yosemite Valley. Although it's not much of a hike, the view at the end of the paved walkway will leave you breathless. You will see (left to right) both Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls, Yosemite Valley below, Clouds Rest, Half Dome standing proud, and even Vernal and Nevada Falls. What more could you ask for? Winter In Winter the road to Glacier Point is closed to cars, but strap on a pair of cross country skis or snowshoes and you should be good to go. If you want to stay overnight, reserve a spot in the Glacier Point Ski Hut where there are bunk beds (dormitory style), a wood fire, food, and good company. Accessibility: This is a partially accessible, fully paved route to the Glacier Point viewing platform. The average grade is 4% and the grade increases to 20% for the last 0.1 miles so manual wheelchair and stroller users may not be able to navigate the full trail without assistance. There is a waypoint on the map marking where the grade increases. The restrooms, gift shop and snack bar located at the trailhead are all wheelchair accessible.

If you entered from the South Entrance, turn right onto Glacier Point Road from Highway 41. It is about 15 miles until you reach Glacier Point. If you entered from the West Entrance (or were in Yosemite Valley) follow Highway 41 toward Wawona and Mariopsa Grove, and turn left at Glacier Point Road.

Short walk up to the viewpoint. Large parking lot. The store was closed on my day. Restrooms available. Water fountain available. Unfortunately I went on a day where the smoke gave me zero view of anything.

Although it was smoky and the sky was extremely hazy because of the fire, awesome view of Half Dome and the Valley from Glacier Point. Easy quick walk. Even saw a baby bear. Decided to hike the 4-mile trail. From Glacier Point, mostly down hill. Be sure to wear appropriate shoes as some areas are gravelly and can be slippery. Hiking with the kids and only walked half way before heading back. Kids were tired and we weren’t sure they’d be able to hike all the way to the Valley and be able to hike back. Will definitely plan the round trip hike for another time

Easy to get to the lookout point. The valley was very hazy due to the smoke from the wildfires, but still a beautiful view of everything. If you are reading this review while the smoke haze is still thick here, I would say go up there as early as you can, it seems to be clearer earlier in the day.

Spectacular views of course! Leaving one star off due to the nature of Glacier Point being able to drive up to so it's filled with people, and the killer sun on the way down after 2pm. Definitely a worthwhile experience! Sentinel Dome is a must too!

Hiking

This was 6 miles from the parking lot to the top pool for the waterfall by the bridge. There was more distance to walk but my kids were tired. The bridge was a good rest stop, but for views I would have stopped earlier by .6 miles because the falls look better before the steep decline towards the bridge. You can see the falls complete prior, no point in going to the bridge because the view is not better there. The trail markers did not make sense to me because it said 1 .5 miles, but it took 2 miles to get to the next sign that said an additional 1 mile to the falls but it really took 1.6 more to get to the bridge but there was more trail we didn't make it to. My phone died before my recording could finish my entire recording. From the parking lot bathrooms to the bridge was over 6 miles. First half down and difficult coming up. My 6 and 8 yo are pretty well conditioned for hiking long distances but the elevation was rough. This hike was the best views the entire way. You can see 3 non dried up waterfalls in Mid August on a low rain year. I recommend this hike over others as it was also not crowded and people wore masks when passing.
