Not a hike to go on if you don't like people. The hike to the old house is a nice trail but it is busy. From there you just continue up the ridge bushwhacking away. Bit of rock-hopping to stay out of the cactus but nothing strenuous at all. Nice view of Whale Peak from the top and looking down to the trail to the Petroglyphs. I was able to get to the trail head in my Jetta as the dirt road is hard packed flat and actually pretty busy. No big rocks on it or dips. Looks like it can get muddy after rain as in some places off the side were deep gouges. Lots of camping along the drive in as well.

Great hike. Large variety of cactus. Nothing in bloom yet. Ocotillo is trying to bloom but no leaves yet. Fun to walk around the cabin ruins.
