This hike through the Marin coastal headlands has a pleasant sense of remoteness in juxtaposition to the nearby Golden Gate Bridge. Get away from the crowds and enjoy stunning costal views. Also a popular raptor viewing area.
Great hike! A nice loop with beautiful views. I followed some other reviews and went counter clockwise which was good advice to combat some of the hills :)
Parked at Miwok trailhead and went clock-wise, hard but not difficult. If using your phone GPS be sure to pull up the trail before going down to the trailhead as cell service is very limited. But the trail is marked very well. Trail is in the Sun throughout the hike, and of course it was one of the hottest days in SF. Great views of SF and Marin. Nice wide fire road so be aware of trail runners and cyclist. Trail says no motorized bikes. But mountain bikes ok.
Took your guys' advice about going counter clockwise..Thank you! Parked across Rodeo Lagoon and took the Miwok trailhead to Bobcat and looped around Miwok trail down. Next time I'll explore other trails along the way. Amazing views of SF and Marin County from the top. Rodeo Beach is just half a mile away, I'd recommend walking over there after the hike and walk along the small beach.
Just ran this loop today in about an hour. whoever suggested going counter-clockwise was correct - going clockwise will provide quite the leg burner as it is very steep. Great views, especially near the top looking north into the Marin waterfront.
Go counter-clockwise to avoid starting on a killer uphill grade. Great views on top and very close to the GG bridge
Really nice trail, good long loop. Can't remember exactly how long it took to finish but it wasn't an all day adventure. The top has some seriously excellent views of the ocean/san francisco and marin/san rafael.
the trail itself isn't anything crazy, it's basically a groomed dirt trail. But it's basically completely all vertical to the peak and then all downhill, so count on hiking uphill for about 3.75 miles!
Also, the signs aren't great for dogs. Dogs are allowed on the first 2 miles and then they say no dogs allowed past that? I kept hiking with my girl anyway and no one noticed/cared. It also said no mountain bikes but I saw a bunch up there too so I'm not sure what the deal is. Fun regardless
Great way to spend a Saturday. It is a good climb to the top but we'll worth it. The views on the North end are of Mill Valley, Mt. Tam, Sausalito and it's Marian while the other side overlooks a valley that is probably a good representation of a random Scottish highland. I also got to see some good wild flowers all along the walk.
