Getting There

This newly-restored, paved trail is at the end of Carquinez Scenic Dr. near Port Costa and is used by hikers, cyclists, wheelchair users, and skaters. You can park in the small Port Costa Staging area. You will see beautiful views of the strait with passing ships and the surrounding hills. Try to pick out perches and nest sites for red-tailed hawks or golden eagles. Park Hours: 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Accessibility: Although this trail is paved and typically at least five feet wide, it has some steep sections and the average grade is 5%. The steepest areas have between an 8% and 10% grade (at about 0.4 miles, 0.9 miles, 1.3 miles, and 1.7 miles). Due to the steep sections, wheelchair and stroller users may need assistance.

There are picnic tables along the trail and a restroom at the trail’s staging area. There is no water, so be sure to come prepared.

From Highway 4 west of Martinez, exit at Cummings Skyway. Turn right on Crockett Boulevard, right again on Pomona Street in Crockett. Pomona Street becomes Carquinez Scenic Drive. Continue past the Bull Valley Staging area another couple of miles to the end of the road and park at the Port Costa Staging Area (this is the western trail head of the George Miller Trail). From I-80 in Crockett, exit onto San Pablo Avenue or Pomona Street, depending on your direction of travel (San Pablo Avenue become Pomona Street east of I-80). Go east on Pomona into Crockett and follow directions above.

Great gentle stroll on a curving paved former road with beautiful views of the Carquinez Strait below. Not very strenuous other than the tug of the constant wind.

If you’re looking for a paved hike with slight hills and beautiful views of the Bay Area water and (if your timing is right) trains passing by below, this is the trail for you. Trees provide some shade but you may want to bring your hat and definitely sunglasses. Take in the views of the water and nature. There’s plenty of it on this trail. FYI - the drive here is windy so if you get car sick, either make sure you’re driving or take some Dramamine.

Easy paved walking path that’s dog friendly and has pretty nice views of the water and good picnic table spots. Great for roller blading (if you’re comfortable with hills) or biking! Best views are encumbered by chain link fence. Not much “pay off” or hiking- just a walk with a view.

Nice paved trail. Slightly hilly but doable. No shade and it was a warm day. Wear sunscreen and bring water!

Beautiful day out here. Very few people and folks were respectful of distancing protocols ... yet it still felt quietly friendly.

Out for a walk, but the asphalt path would great for bikes or strollers or wheelchairs or when it’s too muddy on dirt trails ... surface in excellent condition. Nice views of Carquinez Strait.

This is a nicely paved trail. The inclines are easy. The views along and across the river are beautiful. There are various benches along the trail to stop and sit and enjoy the scenery.
