General Sherman Tree Trail is a 1.4 kilometer heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Sequoia National Park, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is accessible year-round.
Sequoia National Park charges a fee to enter. Fees are $35 per vehicle or $30 per motorcycle. If you are entering on foot or bike the fee is $20 per person. You can also purchase a park specific annual pass for $70. Fun easy walk to see the largest tree in the world! There are two trails to get to the General Sherman Tree - this route includes stairs. The other runs from the handicapped-accessible parking lot/shuttle stop near Generals Highway and can be viewed here on its own trail page (please note that both routes have steep sections however): https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/general-sherman-tree-from-generals-highway

Big parking lot is closed during winter. Small parking lot has about 12 stalls but since it is a highly visited spot, expect double parking to occur in the lot itself. Cars will be parked up and down the road at turnouts so be careful of pedestrians. Best if done early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The tree itself is great, but nothing mind-blowing.
So many huge trees to see! Be sure to follow the AllTrails map though or you will make a wrong turn and either get a shorter or much, much longer hike! There are a lot of trails that weave in and out of this area. In total, I actually did 7.4 miles. Pay attention after Black Arch Tree because there appears to be a tree that has fallen over the trail so you have to detour around it a bit to stay on the trail.
Unbelievable beautiful hike. Long but not too much uphill, so you can take it easy as you keep your eyes on the awesome giants. Enjoy the silence of the forest!
Amazing hike, peaceful and gorgeous most of the way. I only did not like the touristy beginning. But all around a great nature walk
Trails arent clearly marked, had to back track a few times to get on the right trail.
Easy, short hike. Completely paved the whole way. It is pretty wide too so it gives you room to social distance, though I was there on a Friday last week so I was pleasantly surprised there weren’t as many people as I thought there would be. I imagine Saturday and Sunday can be much more crowded.
The behavior of the other hikers on the trail was disgusting. People were walking dogs on the trail (not allowed in national parks for a variety of reasons), and jumping over the fence to attempt to climb the trees. The trail would have been cool if fellow hikers followed the rules set in place to ensure that this area will be available to hike years from now. Extremely disappointed
Forgot to hit record when starting, this is just the way back. Highly trafficked trail but very informative. The General is not the widest or the tallest, but he is the biggest!
