General Sherman Tree From Generals Highway is a 0.4 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Sequoia National Park, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips and is accessible year-round.
Sequoia National Park charges a fee to enter. Fees are $35 per vehicle or $30 per motorcycle. If you are entering on foot or bike the fee is $20 per person. You can also purchase a park specific annual pass for $70. See the largest tree in the world! Accessibility: This trail is the most wheelchair and stroller friendly route to the General Sherman Tree as it starts at the handicapped-accessible parking lot/shuttle stop near Generals Highways and does not have stairs. It is unclear if users may need assistance getting from the parking lot to the trail. This trail has steep sections. The surface of the trail is paved and it is typically at least three feet wide. As an out-and-back route, the grade on the trail is moderately steep. There is an option to make this a loop and return by veering southeast. However, that section is steeper than the northwestern option with grades greater than 12% so proceed with caution.
Tons and tons of people. Crowds. Really, really early in the morning would be best to visit. Fascinating, none the less.
One of the most unique hikes I’ve ever been on. I’ll be doing this again, to say the least.
accidentally left the recording on in the car, but great little trail really well graded plenty of benches. An incredible grove of trees, genuinely mind boggling.
Super crowded. A lot of people wearing masks but a lot aren’t. Not much ability to stay 6 feet away
Initially going down and a tourist path around the sequoia trees including General Sherman. Uphill on the way back. Not easy coming back up but not difficult
It was crowded during COVID but still a great hike. Please wear your face mask.
Super crowded but nice shady path to Sherman tree. Not being long at all worth a stop
Trail was crowded as expected. But cool morning and cool hike to see General Sherman.
Trail was mostly compacted snow, but doable for us in regular hiking boots. Crowded at general sherman but otherwise it seemed we had the trail to ourselves.
Easy hike but people seem to break the rules & walk off trail killing all the plant life around the trees which is really sad. Also service dogs only on this trail!
Great trail to see some of the large sequoia trees. Nice stops and picture vantage points along the way. Well worth the stop and short hike.
