Starts the same way as the hike to Lawson peak. Go past Lawson and watch for the cut off trail to Gaskill marked by cairns on the side of the trail. Take that use trail to the Gaskill summit. It is a bit overgrown and some rock scrambling and route finding may be required.

One of my favorite drives from dwntn SD. Views are endless all around. I would rate this a moderate hike compared to other ones I have done. Hiked it twice and always a place side of the road to park( only fits about 10 cars) .

I didn't follow the gps route to Gaskill. If you keep following the dirt road past Gaskill there is a trail up a wash that has cairns/ducks up a wash to the peak. Its a little overgrown but probably easier than following the ridge over to the peak. Requires scrambling to get to the top. If you're scared of heights you may not make it to the peak. The two register cans are a complete mess. Trash collected: 5 beer cans, 2 water bottles, and a hand full of rifle shells.

This hike is now one of my favorites in San Diego. When you reach the fork at the end of the trail at the top, make sure to take the middle trail into the shrubs and up the mountain. It’s going to be definitely a hike and some rock climbing involved. Once you reach the top it’s truly an amazing view. The only downfall I would say is that the trail all the way up until you get to the fork is extremely uneven as it looks like it’s a run off for water. This is definitely a difficult hike and has a huge incline in elevation so be prepared for that.

Pretty cool hike. Went off the beating path which could’ve taken us towards another trail. Great. Steep climb awesome views.

Service road up to two lightly used summit trails. Both include a bit of 3rd class scrambling, maybe 4th. Lots of chaparral, so pants and long sleeves might be a consideration. It is hot though, no shade. Great hike with views that are worth it.
