Beautiful hike. Definitely not moderate for most people. Quite steep. But worth it! Lovely, peaceful lake at the top. Will return when wildflowers are in bloom.

This trail is rated at the trailhead and guidebooks as “difficult.” It is a steep climb with lovely views, beautiful wildflowers, and a stream along a shady trail. The trip to the top is a heart-pounder, but the payoff is the gorgeous meadow and beautiful lake. I’ve done this a half dozen times and it never gets old.

Quiet, lovely spot. Don’t all go at once! It was great to have the place to ourselves (wife, self, dog) the afternoon we went. Next time I want to go on up to Tioga peak. The trail feels a bit steep and rock-slide-y; even more so going down at sunset. On the way down we caught a glimpse of Mt Dana, with a sunset-red cloud hanging over it, that was to die for.

It is a steep trail but worth it once you reach the top and hang around the lake.

this hike was a hidden gem. it is very steep and because of the altitude start point it can seem tiring. however at the top I was greeted with a view and scenery that exceeded every expectation. not only that, it is not heavily traveled and I did not see another hiker until I was a few hundred yards away from completing my hike. it took between a half hour and 45 minutes each way. it is a splendid picnic hike.

We went with 3 families with younger kids, ages 4-6. In my eyes it would not be considered moderate. I would say hard. The stream you have to cross, it lost the wood crossing it’s a steam with rocks. Adults were able to cross but not the kids. We walked down a little and crossed where the stream was closer together. It’s very steep, rocky and muddy in areas. It’s only a little over a mile but it took us an hour to go up. Coming down was a little hard on my knees but I took it slow and only slipped once. The end was worth the climbing. Take bug spray there was a bunch of small mosquitos. The lake was gorgeous and some snow was still up there. I would use caution on the snow on the lake because underneath is hallowing out.

It really is straight up almost the entire way but so worth it! Three ponds surrounding the lake. Beautiful wild flowers, blue sky and incredible views. Careful if you try to walk to other side of the lake. There is a very large glacier that is difficult to traverse. You cannot walk all around the lake as some had suggested. The ground cover is too thick to pass through. The view of the canyon on the side of the lake is worth the walk. There are brook trout in the lake but weather conditions can make it difficult to catch. There was a pretty strong breeze today blowing across the lake and down the canyon.

A very steep trail but as all great things it was worth the effort. The lake was beautiful with snow on some parts of the ground. We fished the whole lake and caught beautiful brook trout. Don't forget to walk around the whole lake. There is a little pond behind the lake with the most beautiful view of the valley below.

Steep, but not too difficult since it's so short (easier if you start early for shade). Lake is in a nice meadow. About halfway point for Tioga Peak.

Climbed to Gardisky Lake with a friend on August 9, 2017. At age 70, I found it tough going up, easy going down -- only about a half hour back to the road. Not knowing the trail, were about to turn back while going up when another hiker told us we were only about 500 yards from the lake. Steep switchbacks, glorious views and wildflowers, dramatic alpine meadow. Tried fly fishing, didn't catch anything even though fish were rising. Very rewarding.

Awesome lake. Good trout fishing too! I would rate this as easy since it is so short.

I loved this hike. It's a sharp hike up at first but at the top you can take time and explore. I walked around the lake and crossed the valley for a windy view. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Hiked up here with my dad to check out the view. The lake was really low when we got there, but it was an fun hike. The trail is mostly uphill and is much fast going down.

Short little hike, but all the elevation gain is at the beginning. Nice views from the top, cute little lake.
