At the top, there is a large turnout near the locked gate at the top of the road. It is the first road west of the Painted Cave junction. At the bottom, there is parking near Fremont Campground. The trail is unmarked near site 12 or can be accessed via unmarked trails that circle the campground. Follow it west until behind houses at the Fremont Tract, then climb to two water towers and keep on going up.

it's rewarding with lake cachuma views. if you plan to extend the hike after the trail till paradise road, it gets tough on the way up. requires more water and to start the hike as early as 7~8 am. otherwise, you will face noon sun shine.
