The trail isn’t that tough but it’s narrow and steep... not a great one for the family.... fun if you have a roll bar and a buddy to pull you back into your wheels.. i have a lifted rubicon on 35s, while I could easily traverse the trail.. the risk of slide and roll was more than I would put for an intermediate trail. This is my second Jeep and have been trailing for 6 years plus... happily do this with my business partner with two lifted jeeps and plenty of self rescue equipment... and two experienced drivers.. but based on the r views here went to do it with my kids and waived off... just wanted to get the info out there so people can properly gauge it.. this is an non challenging hard trail.. if that makes sense...I tend to be more cautious because I have gotten stuck and broken rigs and had to hike out... so felt like I need to add so color to there reviews

This was my first time on a trail. Not going to lie, there were a few spots that made me pretty nervous, but I did it!, well part of it. I didnt complete the entire trail, I came back down on Black Gulch Rd to 155. My Sahara is stock and I didnt have the proper equipment to complete the trail.

Great trail, definitely recommend at least a front locker if you’re going up it especially in the deep rut area.

This is a fantastic off road trail! The trail was very clean, The air was crisp, and the views were spectacular! You will need a high clearance vehicle and 4x4. Highly recommend.

A couple challenging sections but still would call moderate. Definitely want a high clearance vehicle. Stock Jeep is fine, even without lockers. May want some armor underneath but experienced drivers won’t need it.

Fantastic trail for my first time ever 4x4ing. New Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. Nothing way out of my comfort zone despite the "Most Difficult" signage. Just some scratches from the bushes, nothing that can't be buffed out. NOTE! The gate is closed but that does not mean the trail is closed; you just need to close the gate after yourselves.

If you want a beautiful trail this is it! We did the Freeway Ridge - Black Gulch Trail loop. It was not too difficult. The air is cool, everything was green, water In some spots and it was just gorgeous. Our jeeps made it easily.

Beginner to off roading and took the trail no problem. There were some difficult spots and some optional difficult spots. Overall, was a fun day.

I don't know if it was because of the El Niño but the ruts are deep the climbs were steep with rocks on the climbs. Holy smokes batman it was pretty awesome and it was a challenge. I loved it

I was invited to do this trail last week. What an experience. It was a great day of wheelin. I didn't think it was as hard as some make it sound. It's challenging in just a few spots. But for the most part it's a fun trail.

First to Review

This is an extremely difficult trail for offroading. Many times the trail is too narrow to pass and it can get a little complicated! Definitely a good trail just outside of Bakersfield for a dedicated trail rig. I came down the backside in my 1990 Toyota and lost the idler arm and both tie rod ends. My truck spent 3 days on the trail while I hiked out to get parts and tools to fix it, before limping it out of there!
