Bag Mt Olympia, North Peak, Mt Diablo, and Eagle Peak in Mt Diablo State Park on this beautiful loop.
Want a worthy Diablo hike? Do all the peaks! This has steep climbs and descents that may be full of loose material. Some low overgrowth and encroaching poison oak, plus a few skree fields the trail crosses, all leading to excellent views. Parking? Park on the Mountaire Pkwy side, not on Regency where space in the permit free zones is limited.
Big run in a breezy day. 29km, 1500 D+. Happy and achy afterwards.

Starts in a residential area, recently the residents created new rules so you're not allowed to park at the trailhead, I got a $45 ticket. The trails are well-maintained but are still slippery because of loose rock, be especially careful going from North Peak to Mount Olympia because of loose rocks, steep terrain, and tight switch backs. There is poison oak that is avoidable if you're careful. I packed 64 oz water (2 32 oz nalgenes) and had about 32 oz left when I reached Mount Diablo summit and was pleasantly surprised to discover a drinking fountain at the top on Mount Diablo Peak! Make sure to hold the button down for a while before the water will start flowing. The number of trails can make it tricky to stay on course, for example, I took bruce lee road too far, missing eagle peak trail on the first try, didn't realize I was off course until I got to back creek trail, and ended up backtracking. The trail gets five stars from me because it's long, steep, technical, and fun. I'm not sure where I'm going to park next time though.
Very challenging hike but the views are worth it! Bring lots of water and a snack and good hiking shoes
