Great hike. Took us about 3 1/2 hours including a 15 minute lunch break. All in the sun but not too rocky as others have indicated. We went clockwise so descended down the stairs. Next time we’d go counterclockwise and take them up.

Awesome hike, just be prepared to go the distance, as the actual roundtrip was 8.0M. Bring plenty of water. 5-6a at the latest to maximize on the cool weather, especially if you are going to hike this counter-clockwise...oh and be ready for the stairway to fortuna! Plenty of signs up advising of closures during the week, plenty of parking off of Clairemont mesa blvd.

Went counterclockwise - challenging stairs and a great hike, better to go as early as possible to avoid the heat. Watchout for rattle snakes - we spotted one on the way and heard a lot of rattlers making noise throughout the trail. And this trail is more than 6.3 miles so do carry plenty of water.

Saw a review to go counterclockwise and it was definitely a super challenging workout that way. Beautiful views at the top, just try to go before the sun is fully out

I did the loop clockwise today. Coming down South Fortuna was quite challenging on the knees. It was a good hike, no problems. a short segment of the loop near the end clockwise is closed during the week because of construction, but it was open for the weekend.

Fun trail. A little crowded, but it was all good. I think going counterclockwise would’ve been a little more challenging/fun because it would be steeper at times, but overall solid trail and great workout. PS What waterfall?

Did it clockwise, really good workout but not challenging at all. I run part of the trail. Next time I will go counterclockwise which I think should be more challenging

Great hike. Just be aware that the weather forcast in this app is incorrect. App said 89 but it was 97 on the hike. Definitely too hot to hike. Check the weather at the trail first.

Trailhead parking is closed but you can street park just in front of it. We took the inverse direction and the signs were pretty clear.

Was an amazing hike! Great workout went to both north and south fortuna took me 4hours. I went clockwise and regretted it honestly there was a steep staircase that I’d much preferred to have gone down instead of up. Bring water even if you don’t need it use it as a safe measure the temps can get really hot. All in all use good judgment.
