Forster Ranch Ridgeline Trail is a 7.6 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near San Clemente, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and nature trips. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
There is no street parking near the actual trailhead, so the route begins at a parking lot a short distance away. This will add a short walk along the sidewalk to the start of the route.
Going all ~3.5 miles in and then back out is definitely not “moderate”... That was hard!
It should be in the description of this trail that there’s NO parking allowed Anywhere (thanks, Telega). The only “lot” near the head is at Target, so if you want to risk being towed, go for it. This was a real bummer, though— drove an hour to not be able to hike. What’s worse is that you can see the trail and how beautiful it is the entire time you’re driving around where you’re not allowed to park. The surrounding neighborhoods are all HOA neighborhoods and you aren’t even allowed to enter them. I ended driving ten minutes away to another hike, but not before wasting my time trying to access this one.
Good trail with some hills, lots of dirt and you're away from the road noise and can see Catalina island when it's clear.
Wide trail. Watch out for mountain bikers. A lot of hills. No shade. Wouldn’t recommend for dogs in the summer. If you want to avoid turning around at the end, you can just take the street back. Also this trail doesn’t have street parking. You can park at a small lot by target & watch the 3/4 mile to the beginning.
Easy trail to follow with good elevation changes. There are terraces at the the top that looks like a resting area. We saw a tarantula, several birds our favorite of which was a hummingbird.
Started from the end of Los Mares and only did about 1.5 miles in, when a rattlesnake crossed the trail right in front of me and I turned around. Be careful out there! Also no shade and very buggy this time of year (May).
Nice trail that's obviously well- maintained and cared for. Trail entrances are well-marked and it's easy to follow. Wildflowers and greenery is nice right now (February). Went ~5 pm on a Tuesday, saw 5-ish other people. Trail has ups and downs that are spread out nicely. Saw a coyote, rabbits, two different hawk species, lots of birds. Great for an afternoon hike!
Nice trail. Good inclines. Lots of options for loops.
