Great hike! I recommend doing the Five Oaks Trail on the way up and the Volcan trail on the way down.

Beautiful trail! Incredible vistas! Suggest getting up there early, the sun gets harsh, quick! The warmer the weather the more bugs!

Up hill right outta the gate! We took Vulcan Mountain Trail up to the Five Oaks Trail down. Really pretty vistas and some animal life (gopher snake, squirrels, rabbits and a horned lizard). Really loved the switchbacks on the way down but my knees were starting to ache at the bottom Our main suggestion is to do this early or late and miss the midday sun. Have fun!!

Started at 8:00 on Thursday. Took three hours at relaxed pace. Saw seven people; all but two wearing masks. Had forgotten what amazing views there were looking both East and West!

Five Oaks Trail is a geeat hike with amazing views! It was a bit windy starting about halfway up; nice & breezy so it wasn't too hot out. It is a little bit rocky, but it's more interesting that the main route! One thing that wasn't clear online is that the actual trailhead is about 0.5 miles away from the road. You follow the Volcan Mountain trail to begin with. Please note that we took Five Oaks Trail for as far as it goes, not just to the summit; we took the Volcan Mountain trail on the way back down, which worked out nicely.

First time on this trial and I loved it during this Covid time; thankful to get out. Got there at 8:30am and there was plenty of parking on the street, temp was high 70s when we started and got into the 80s by the time we were done. It was a good idea to start up the main trail and came down on the Five Oaks side for more shade. But more run ins with people, and narrower path. There were more people around 10am. You can not get lost here, pretty straight forward, appreciate the signs and postings. It was a great day!

Had a fun hike after two months of lockdown. Trail is well maintained and moderately trafficked during these times.

Very awesome detour from the main trail. A bench provides a majestic view around the halfway point of this side trail. Compared to the main trail, this one was lightly overgrown and the trailpath is much much more narrow than on the main trail. it is also quite uneven so it was pretty fun due to the narrow space and small rocky obsticles. On this excursion we had a swarm of bees drift by in front of us near the summit loop. There was plenty of birds for the birder and a plethora of lizards sunbathing for the reptile lover. There was even a rattler that told us not to go in the grass near the overlook that gives you a view of the Salton Sea. Awesome hike. Will be back again and again.

Tighter trail with more brush. Better for the walk back down.

Beautiful scenery. Was pretty windy and cold at the top so definitely bring a windbreaker. Not so much people. Dogs are welcomed as long as their leashed. Definitely will go back again. Heart pumping walk up and killed my knees going down.

Listed as moderate, I’d place it on the lower end. Definitely worth the views (breeze) as you reach the crest. Best before noon and be prepared to see some snakes along the way...

As this trail shares most of its route with the Volcan Trail, look up my review of the Volcan Mountain Trail for details. I would add that the slight deviation you take for this trail is much more rocky and narrow than the Volcan Mountain Trail but its a lot of fun!! I shared my recording and a lot of photos as well.

It was a beautiful dog friendly trail with great vistas and view of the wineries and Julian. Watch out for the manzanitas that line the trail. We went in mid February and they were completely covered in bees. I am allergic to bees so it made for a slightly stressful hike. Overall we enjoyed our hike! The views we worth it

Randonnée quand même difficile à monter, pendant un bon bout on longe le mont en ayant une belle vue sur le petit quartier. Tranquille comme rando, on a croisé environ 5 personnes un mercredi après-midi.
