Fern Canyon Trail is a 4.3 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Palm Springs, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
One of those far trails to get to with incredible panoramic views at the summit. Hidden jewel of the desert midway is a Palm Oasis. At the end of the trail where you'll see an area that only a very few hikers ever get to experience.
Great views from the ridge line.
Easy to moderate Trail from the Trading Post to Fern Canyon. No steep switchbacks yet great views of desert landscapes. Fern Canyon is a small healthy palm oasis in a narrow canyon. Very quiet, peaceful and spiritual setting. Great place to relax and read for awhile. Even though the desert plants outside the canyon looked like they are thriving, the ferns in the canyon were brown and dry. I read that the canyon walls always have seeping water on them, but the walls were bone dry on 12/14/16. It did rain here two days later. A special "thank-you" to the prison guys in their orange overalls for doing such a remarkably good job with the trail maintenance. They were all but too happy to inform me that they are paid $1.45 a day as the two sheriff guards looked on. A job well done guys.
