Hikshari' Trail is a 2.7 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Eureka, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
the trail is flat but scenic I carried my 20 lb rucksack to make it adventurous
Great trail on Humboldt Bay. We walk it 2 or 3 times a week and it is always a joy especially at sunset. We usually start at the trail head at the Herrick Ave. park and ride lot. Paved path is nice but the trails that follow the Elk River offer a more scenic view with lots of birds. We often see birders, bikes, dog walkers and families on the trail. Haven’t seen a homeless camp in several years. The Trail Stewards do a wonderful job of maintaining the trail and the Eureka Police patrol the trail on an ATV. We always feel safe even in the evening. The hike out over the RR trestle to Stinky Beach is wonderful.
I take my dog on this trail often. We call it "stinky beach"- used to have a rendering plant right next to where the trail runs. I don't know why this site thinks the trail is 51.2 miles. IT'S NOT. Great view of the two spits at the bay entrance. This year was the first year that the Kinetic Grand Championship race ran through here. if you park at the Park and Ride at the Herrick Ave exit you can watch the show. And the beach is right there too!
