Getting There

Please note: Do not park in the lower dirt lot further down the road or you may be towed. If the main lot is full, please wait for a spot to open to avoid a fine. Nestled in the Etiwanda foothills is the Etiwanda Falls Trail. It is a nice out and back hike suitable for the whole family with lots of great scenery and photo opportunities. There are also many informational markers along the way to explain the significance of conserving this area and its role in protecting valuable ecosystem function and sensitive species found there. The falls are found on National Forest property north of the current boundaries of the North Etiwanda Preserve. By going to the falls, you will cross over privately owned property, which is not a designated part of the Preserve. The private property crossed is still a habitat preservation site for which the same conservation practices apply. Dogs are not allowed on this trail. NOTE: There is a designated parking area by the trailhead. DO NOT park on the road and walk to the trailhead if the lot is full. Users have reported that the police tow hikers' cars here daily. Hours: Winter (November- February) 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM Summer (March-October) 6:30 AM - 8:00 PM PARKING GATES LOCKED PROMPTLY AT CLOSING TIME NO DOGS ALLOWED

San Bernardino County Special Districts Department 157 West 5th Street, 2nd Floor, San Bernardino, CA 92415-0450 (909) 387-5940

To make the hike longer and more photogenic, you can follow the NEP loop hike to the guaging station in Day Canyon.

The North Etiwanda Preserve is located at the northern terminus of Etiwanda Avenue in the foothill area above Rancho Cucamonga. From the 210 Freeway: - Exit Day Creek Boulevard in the City of Rancho Cucamonga and head north. - Proceed on Day Creek Blvd 2.2 miles until you reach Etiwanda Avenue. - Day Creek will veer east and end at Etiwanda Avenue. - Take Etiwanda Avenue north approximately .3 mile until the pavement ends. - Continue on dirt road approximately 600 feet to the designate gravel parking area. -Walk north on the main trail from the parking lot. Continue on that path until your reach the falls.

HikingGreat!

Others have said it: the destination is well worth the hike. Uphill all the way and absolutely no shade, and no views (but only 1.70 miles one way). Not too busy on a Monday late morning. On the way down, around 5 pm, having spent a relaxing four hours at the Falls, many more people were going up, 90% (or more!) not wearing masks, despite the big sign at the trailhead requiring mask-wearing!

Nice hike! Make sure to be out of the parking lot by 8 pm though. The park rangers close the gate.

Great hike to get your heart rate going! Steady incline all the way up to the falls and lots of room to explore once you’re up there. I got there at 5pm on a Sunday and there was plenty of parking but it got packed as I was leaving because everyone was trying to catch the sunset. Definitely come beforehand to avoid large crowds. I’d say more than half of the people there weren’t wearing masks so bring your own if you want to be cautious. Overall a new favorite!

Nice trail and the top makes it worth it. Go early it can get crowded at the top. If you keep going past where everyone is it’s peaceful

Pretty waterfall at the end! There is some shade but not a lot so bring water on hot days. It is a bit crowded at the end but if you keep following the creek you can find a nice quiet spot eventually.

The trail to get to the falls was rocky with only a few spots of shade. It was mostly inclined . Once arrived at the falls it was very nice though a little on the crowded side for me. Everyone observed social distancing but not everyone wore a mask. I found a path that led into a narrow canyon that brought me to more waterfalls and no one was there. I enjoyed that area immensely. Very beautiful. The way back was easy since it was down hill and the sun had gone below the mountains. Next time I want to see the interpretive sections displayed in the pavilion. I started at about 4pm and parking was not issue. No fees. Overall A good experience...I had a good time.

Great trail. We did the hike few days ago, this is moderately-hard for me. Hike to the waterfalls pretty much an incline & no shades. Great workout i sweat like crazy . End of the trail the waterfall & shaded areas. Going back a little easier mostly downhill & little windy/cooler. Needs really good hiking shoes the trail mostly gravel. Parking is almost full when we got there around 745am. Go early. Overall i love it, great workout.

Super awesome trail! A little heavily trafficked but easy to space out up until the top and at the falls there are so many areas to spread out and sit it’s not too bad. It’s hot with no cover until you literally get to the falls so prepare with sunscreen and water, and try to come early when it’s cool. Parking lot gets packed before the afternoon so be aware that you might have to walk a while if you park somewhere else!

I loved this trail. It was short and sweet, work up a sweat, and you can be done in a couple of hours if you want a quick workout. It is also a great trail to take someone visiting or if you want to spend time alone up at the falls. The falls are great to explore and eat lunch or write in a journal. The falls are a peaceful, shady reward after being in no shade on the way up. Just wear sunscreen and bug repellant- there is literally no shade on the way up and down.

Tough. Go early, it gets hot. Take good hiking shoes. There are several hiking trails so choose wisely. The waterfall is totally worth it. Don’t throw trash please.
