Hiking

Gorgeous farmland that the State Parks was able to acquire for the public to enjoy. Lots of variety along this hike, and some amazing distant ocean views. However I need to knock off a star because of the disrespectful mountain bikers (who for instance won’t bother to single-trail it, blissfully confident that when it comes down to it, I don’t really need that’s half of the trail that I’m hiking on). Don’t get me wrong, I see how this is a great park for mountain biking, but you don’t need to be a jerk about it. Most bikers also don’t wear masks, if that’s a concern (though kids tend to be better at this than adults).

Biked this as new biker and was challenged all the way. Part of it was single track and about half was super rocky so I was afraid of falling off. It's redeeming feature? Very few people on it (even on a Saturday) and gorgeous views throughout.

Hiking

Nice trail composed of 70% grassland (no shade) and 30% of forest. The trail is runable, slope is not too steep. It seems there are more bikers on the trails than hikers. There is a free parking along the HW1 (Cabrillo Hwy) not too far from the park entrance. Arriving from Santa Cruz, the parking is on the left of HW1 just 1 minute before entering the park entrance ($10). As the trail starting point is close to the see. It is worthwhile to make a short loop (about 1.5 miles, 2km) to visit the ocean bluff (wear warmer, even on hot warm day).

Hiking

This is my favorite place to hike in Santa Cruz. There are a lot of trails, but the best is taking Baldwin Trail to the Enchanted Loop (a fairy tail-esque forest). On the way back down you'll get breathtaking views of the sparkling Pacific. It's about 5.4 miles round trip and there's an option to take a steeper trail up to Enchanted Loop, so you get a good workout. The only downside is that the trails are not well marked and you can turn a 2 hour hike into a 4 hour hike if you're not careful.

Nice views. I did a smaller loop but still a nice hike. Pretty sunny day, so I probably should've gone earlier but still super nice. Most of the trail os wide enough, just keep an eye out for bikers on the narrower parts. :)

I head out to Wilder Ranch often. Lots of awesome trails and so many different things to see; ocean, caves, flowers, open fields, mountains, trees and of course wild life. Its a beautiful place in almost all seasons. Make sure you bring all weather clothes, it can be cold or hot at any time.

Beautiful and easy trail. It can get warm especially on clear a clear say. Although it is an easy walk trail, bring water, snack, and a hat!

Beautiful views of the Pacific, good changes in elevation so you get a little work out in, too, and a hidden redwood forest with a stream. We took Baldwin Loop to Enchanted Loop for a 5.4 mile RT hike.

Great trail. However, the directions are wrong. It leads you to a site 5 miles north of the State Park where it makes little sense to start. You can park off of hwy 1 across from the trailhead to go up into Wilder. The Enchanted loop is amazing with an excellent technical singletrack and beautiful redwood forests. The climb back up is steep but worth it after the awesome ride down. If you continue on, you can ride to the Baldwin loop trail, cross hwy 1 and ride the Ohlone trail that hugs the coast. This trail is fairly flat without any technical features but delivers a spectacular view of the rugged coastline. It's definitely worthwhile despite the flat, and sometimes sandy, trail.

Walking

This is a great little walk. Whenever someone new comes to town and wants to check out Santa Cruz, this is a stop on my itinerary for them. It's super easy and flat with great ocean views and plenty of dramatic crashing waves. I start at the upper parking lot and follow the Ohlone Bluff Trail along the cost for about 1 mile. It cuts inland and you can follow a dirt road past a (private?) property and then down the hill, over the railroad tracks, then back up toward the park entrance. Good for parents or those with less hiking experience that still want a great outdoor experience. Bring a wind jacket. I haven't spent any time down in the Cultural Preserve Area.

Great scenic trails, can take the loop through the old farm property and walk through a prairie and lookout over the Monterey Bay.

This area is pretty big and offers a lot. Open single track, oak canopy, eucalyptus grove, technical single track, and the trail head is close to the ocean where a track along the bluff is present. It's moderate in terms of difficulty and has lots of variety. Finding it is easy as is parking. This is really a great spot!

First to Review

Another great trail near the Pacific coast. There is a short loop near the ocean that just about anyone can complete. Nothing too strenuous, and great views. For those looking for a challenge, head inland! Some awesome single track through this park. My wife is not a big fan of single track but still managed her way through some of the tracks. My profile picture is taken in this park as well. There are definitely some areas that are for more advanced riders, but overall nothing too gnarly. Mountain lions have been spotted through here. My friends have pictures of one to prove it. Make sure you're aware of your surroundings while you have fun through this awesome park.
